REQUIRED READING: Marketplace Terms of Use

Please read all of the following:

By posting in the Marketplace forum, you accept the following guidelines and terms of use. These policies also apply to the entire website.

You are welcome to post For Sale items, giveaway items, and Want To Buy notices. If you have been a genuinely engaged user of Backcountry Pilot for more than a month, you can even advertise for your services if you are a commercial pilot or have an aviation oriented business. Any items or services posted must be aviation related.

ITEMS BEING SOLD MUST BE OWNED BY YOU

The only items allowed "FS:" in the Marketplace forums are items that you are personally selling. No Ebay, Craigslist, or any other ads you find out there on the web. "FS:" is reserved for items actually owned and being sold by BCP members. No dealer posts, or selling items for other non-BCP members, no posting items for other BCP members. You must personally own the item being posted.

If you find a retail deal (not an aircraft for sale) or something you think we should all know about, post "PSA:" To differentiate a Public Service Announcement, something for sale by a retail business/website/someone outside our community,e.g. "Airframes Alaska has bushwheels on sale 35% off today only." This only applies to non-aircraft and non-real estate sales. Aircraft and real estate for sale are only allowed to be posted by their legal owner. Real estate must be airport property.

If you are a commercial entity trying to sell aircraft or property, please contact [email protected] to learn about paid options.

IMPORTANT
You are required to use these prefixes for your items in the Subject line:

For Sale: "FS: " Only to be used on items that you personally are selling, not others' sales.
Want To Buy: "WTB:"
Want To Trade: "WTT:"
For Rent: "FR:"
In Search Of: "ISO:"
Free: "FREE:"
For Hire: "FH:"
Public Service Announcement: "PSA:" (good retail deal, sale, etc, except aircraft and titled vehicles. Must be new merchandise from a retailer.)

Example -- "FS: Worn out AK Bushwheels"

NOT "For sale:" or "Want to buy:", but the abbreviation.

WITHOUT A PREFIX, YOUR POST WILL BE REMOVED AUTOMATICALLY
Use of the prefixes constitutes acceptance of the terms of use. This subforum is scanned every 15 minutes by an automated script that deletes threads that are not prefixed with the above.

If you do successfully sell, giveaway, or satisfy your want-to-buy needs, please update your post. Append "- SOLD" to the end of the subject line. The thread will be moved to the archive to clean up the marketplace forum.

BUYER AND SELLER BEWARE

As with any online transaction, proceed cautiously.

BackcountryPilot.Org and its owner assume absolutely no liability or responsibility for fraud perpetrated as a result of making contact through this forum. We have no way to verify the authenticity of any member of this forum, that is the responsibility of the buyer or seller.

Exercise due diligence and use your best judgement as to the reliability of the buyer or seller.

- If you are contacted by email, proceed cautiously. In the past, users have been approached by scammers who found their contact info posted in the public forums and attempted to defraud them. Marketplace has been changed to logged-in only because of this. A PM is easier to investigate though should that be necessary.

- Get phone numbers, addresses, and as much contact information as possible.

- If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

- Don't fall for scams that involve complex hoops to jump through or strange ways of transferring money. Beware of scams where buyers require you to front them money in order to get a larger sum of money back from them. There are many buy/sell scams on the internet, you simply have to do your due diligence for every transaction.

- Use some sort of escrow service like Paypal whenever possible. At the very least you're using a credit card with Paypal, which gives you a little fraud protection.

- If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. This can't be said enough.

BCP is actually a tight knit community and most buyers or sellers can be checked out easily with a reference, if needed, but we do grow every year, and with more people comes the potential for some dishonest ones. In 12 years, I aware of only 2 incidents where a member ripped off another, though I'm sure there are others that have not been brought to my attention.

If it comes to our attention that someone has defrauded another user, the offending user's account will be suspended or terminated, pending investigation. Information and electronic evidence will be sent to law enforcement if necessary.

Read this thread for evidence there are scammers out there who will attempt to take advantage of us.
