Valdez STOL Video 2014?

I know that it would be a pain, but would it be possible for someone who is going to Valdez to take pity on those of us who can't be there, and film the STOL competition and maybe take copious amounts of photos and then put it all online for our perusal? I, and I am sure a few others, would be very grateful. [-o<

Sincerely,
Quis

WX is looking good for the weekend, I'm headed over there and will attempt to document some of the highlights. Really looking forward to it, should be a good turnout.

A SQ-12 was practicing on the Knik yesterday.

Measured 12mph wind. Longest landing was 6 feet. Shortest was 2 feet. Takeoffs ranged between 5 feet and 10 feet. The pressure is on.

Wish I was up there with you guys. Have fun! Take lots of pictures and videos please.

Holy cow, that's less than a full rotation of a pair of 31's. That's sure one way to save some wear & tear on those bushwheels!

Re: Valdez STOL Video 2014?

Sam,

Where are you flying out from and what time are you leaving? Are you interested in a tag along?

I am planning on flying out of Birchwood later today, but waiting to see what the winds will do. I'm listening to the Live ATC broadcast, and there was a report of 15kt wind shear on a departure not too long ago.

Yikes! Just looked @ the metar, gusting 28!

Leaving off the lake hood strip, was planning a 17:00 departure but will be waiting for winds to die down now...

Re: Valdez STOL Video 2014?

Yes, champ it was, ground loop.

Winds this morning were strong NW & SE, meeting mid runway. This made for a strong tailwind initially transitioning into the wind midfield. Unfortunately a bunch of folks were landing in the first 3000ft with the tailwind, exciting and scary to watch.

In my opinion while watching the aforementioned loop it was just too much gusty tailwind as the airplane slowed, remember, opinion only.

STOL comp currently delayed till 15:00 local
