Around the world in 7 days - in LAX...of to SIN

Post any recommendations about what I should bring with me for 6 days... My friend often does those trips and he leaves with an old pair of jeans/ginch/socks/shirt and garbages them couple days in the trip which leaves room for "souvenirs" like lounge food and hotel goodies. I just want to have the best packing job for a 30L carry on pack! Tks, BCT

Well... I was finally able to tap into the Burma (now Republic of Myanmar) that keeps coming back every so often. It is a great mileage run (I'll rack up both Aeroplan and Delta mega points). My buddy bought 5 trips last time it showed up. I only bought one and was lucky enough to find and west bound routing and fly some pretty cool machines (in first class!) Myanmar to JFK is all first Class. I'll positioned from YVR-LAX on an AC flight, then LAX to RGN on cattle class but on a 380. JFK-YVR routing back through LAX for maxing out on points. I got the RGN-JFK segment for $475 but it sold for as low as $282 with similar routing with Swissair... like I said, next time it comes around, I'm snagging 3-4 trips, best way to rack up points, fast and cheap. Key here is no lay over more than 24 hrs.

Re: Around the world in 5 days - First class under $1000

Many questions on how/where I got the deal from...given that I dont live in the "city", I rely heavily on a high miler friend and flyertalk.com If you go to flyertalk.com, then click on "Miles & Points" then click on "Mileage run deals" That sale has come up 2 or 3 times and will continue to come by due to currency fluctuations with Myanmar. Good luck

I noticed some of your notes about "No Smoking Comfirmed". Do some if these airlines allow smoking in certain parts of the cabin? Or certain flights? I thought by now all international & domestic carriers are non-smoking on all flights.

I think they lack a comma or two in the text. Seat 12, no smoking, confirmed Doe, John Mr.

Re: Around the world in 5 days - First class under $1000

I have managed to add one mileage destination to my YVR-LAX leg...for no cost I was able to tack in a YYZ which means an extra 4200 miles!

Only 20 days to go... what to pack what to pack!

Re: Around the world in 5 days - First class under $1000

Do you have time to actually get off the plane?? Is the point of this trip solely to receive frequent flyer points? If so, you are saying it is worth it to spend 4-5 days of your life on a plane going to places you can hardly have lunch in before taking off for another flight? #-o I hope the freezing temps havent affected the blood flow to the ole noodle, but then again, living in Whitehorse can make a guy want to be anyplace else at certain times of the year. Have fun. PS Are you looking for a wife?

Back in ther 60's, I actually enjoyed jumping on a PSA "Electrojet", paying my $12.95, and flying from Treasure Island (S.F. - Navy ET school) down to SoCal to visit family. Airlines treated you different back then, even in coach.

Now I frickin' hate having to fly commercial. I'll do it to go overseas, of course, but it is the low point of the whole traveling experience. I cannot fathom flying on a tubular cattle car just for the fun of it . . . let alone spending money to do so.

I think it's about adventure and I'd do it. But then again I'm not too bright. Still, I'd take a laptop and or I-pad with translators for the languages I'd be flying through. I think just seeing other passenger's reaction to my useless round the world flight would be priceless. Bring plenty of Immodium.

Whatever...

haha! I get this question all the time...let me explain as quick as I can! Nope, not looking for a wife...got an amazing one! I do it for the points, I find cheap deals that give me lots of points, that way I take the family on amazing holidays for free/very cheap with all sorts of bonus's (those who do mileage runs like me know what I'm talking about) and thirdly, I just love flying, wether its out in the bush or around the world on a jumbo... this trip gives me one night in Yangon, Honk Kong, London and New York, it gives me a shit load of points and mostly, I get to escape -40c weather for 6 days total! I am doing this trip with a really good friend so it will be fun to bum around, eat food and see some part of the world...its cheaper than taking a flight south and spend a week-end at the mall (those living north of 60 also understand what I mean about making a trip to the big malls)

I take a lot of photos so I will post it all in the trip reports upon my return and post updates here when I can...I think I get internet on few legs...especially on Singapore AL 380-800 Business...it will be great to test out different foods...you can only eat sheep and bison for so long before needing a change!

Hope this helps! BCT

Oh and for those who may be looking for great deals, this is the page you want to check couple times a day...you never know; http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles-points-1/ then click on "Mileage run deals"

I agree, BCT, flying is fun no matter how you do it. One of the most amazing flights I've ever had was in Cathay Pacific cattle class on a 747 from Vancouver BC to Hong Kong. We flew up the coast of BC and along The west coast of AK, over the Bearing strait, and down the east coast of Siberia-- All in crystal clear CAVU daytime. I had my face pinned to the window the whole time.

That's awesome Z! I'm flying A380-800 Cattle from LAX to Tokyo... got a north side window in the 56th row (bottom)...top floor was all booked up already... I have this feeling my nose print will be on that window just like you but my vue wont be anything like what you had...that coast is one amazing view from FL370!

I think BCT said $1000.00.

But right now it cost almost $800.00 to fly round trip LAX-Boise (a 2 hour flight ](*,) )

I should have added if i wouldnt need to go first class or maybe thats the only way it should be considered and for a computer guru it probably wouldnt be so bad lining things up but us people that are slow i would have to spend the first week just to get the first ticket bought.
