Titan / Ace Performance Engines

I have read the thread about the first R409 in the SQ12...pretty cool!

To make note, some of these threads I am starting are to separate them from just one place and hidden. Really they will be used for my own reference when looking for a certain item and hopefully someone else down the road when looking for information.

My question is, does anyone here have any experience dealing with Ace Performance or Titan engines? I know Breedan has 125 hours and counting on his new 409 and curious if there are any others?

This is also a great article: http://experimenter.epubxp.com/i/471466-mar-2015/30

Anyhow, thought I would start a thread about the engine and if anyone had experience working with either.

Seriously thinking about that R409 motor for the HP and weight reduction.

I've written trying to get info on the O-540-X and also to Kevin Eldredge directly with no response. Maybe they aren't good at email and require a phone call, some folks are just like that.

I do think it's a critical pre-sales barometer to see how responsive they are to communication and customer service.

I have heard through the grapevine that they are having major cylinder cracking issues... Hopefully they figure it out... Those engines have lots of great potential...

Care to elaborate on the cracking? I have spoken to the two people I know with the engine and both are very happy with no problems. I believe there are only a couple planes out there with these engines doing what we do with them.

Zane -my experience so far has been nothing short of very good. I had a bad email and then called and had immediate response from KE. Still uncertain about the engine direction but I still have a lot of time to decide. Certainly nothing wrong with the good ol trust worthy 0375

Only what I have heard from a friend that was going to use a 409... Enough of a problem for him to go the 0-375 route.... Had the 409 ready to go too...

Might not be a big deal, just something I heard... I like the engines myself and look forward to seeing more of them in the future..

I have heard the same thing about the cylinder cracking issues. Pepperds SQ-12 has a 409 Angle valve motor now. He no longer has the aluminum cylinders. So the only one I know of still flying is the Breedens. And maybe Kevin's personal bird. I too am very intrigued by the ace motors. Ron

I have heard about the cyl cracking on the test cell. Apparently they "recalled" the engines. They are also having problems with the efii as well
