Re: Colorado Mountain Training

Looks like a good one. Using normal training aircraft like the 172, he has to be familiar with natural energy in the mountains.

I have no clue. I can't get past the jumpsuit and hair. He's certainly not shy about self-promotion on his site.

On the other hand, they charge $90 an hour wet for a C172 and $140 for a C182. Costs me darn near that much to fly mine.

Maybe he's the real deal, and has some good experience to pass on. Maybe his deal is taking lots of pics of himself, and videos of low passes with pretty girls sitting next to him....

On second thought, I want to do that. Buyer beware. Maybe one of the CO flyers on here can take a peek and give a report.

Re: Colorado Mountain Training

You land-o-matic guys (okay okay it's just in jest  ) will love him cause he doesn't believe in taildraggers for bush use. He may be correct in South Africa I don't know. I've considered taking his course in Africa in part because I'd love to hunt there again and in part cause I always like to learn new stuff.

Re: Colorado Mountain Training

I don't have any idea whether he's any good or not, but it might be worth $90 per hour just for the stories you'd have after hanging out around that guy for a day!

Re: Colorado Mountain Training

That is the kinda stuff that chaps my hide. We try really hard to make backcountry flying safe, and more importantly convey the safe responsible image to the non-flying public and gov't agencies. You get a character like this coming around making everyone think that what we do is akin to a deathwish and we get scrutiny which none of us wants.

Besides that there a lot of schools in CO that will give much better local information than this guy can ever give.

Re: Colorado Mountain Training

I say we all chip in 30 or 40 bucks each, or however the math works out, to send Gump down there to hang with this guy a few days and take his course, all incognito but wired with sound and video. Then of course he'd have to report back to us on how it went  I'm laughing like hell just typing this.

A former longhair, I never thought I'd say it, but,"that guy needs a haircut". He may be shit hot down in his little neck of the woods, but how and why he is pushing his biz up in the US escapes me. If one is looking for a blonde haired mountain flying instructor, Lori MacNichols is MUCH better looking and the money spent stays stateside. =D>
