West Fork Lodge (4U7) MT

Anybody have and info on this place other than what is on AirNav? My wife and I are meeting some friends near there and floating the Selway. It sure would be nice to not have to make the 7 hour drive, other than we'd have to leave the kayaks behind  ...wish I had a plane i could haul my boats in.

Great place, owners name is Tex, loves people to fly in, has very nice rooms to rent plus a resturant and bar, A ++

Strip is fairly long, landing to the south requires a tight downwind on other side of hill (east) and desending into valley on base, or you can land downstream from the South going north basically straight in desending down the stream.

Tell Tex hello, we've took friends with us last year in another Maule and a C195

Have fuel, food and places to stay or camp. Seemed like nice accomodating folks. I was just flying back from Kalispell and they called up on the radio, after I made a position report, to chat. Looked like a nice location right next to the west fork of the Bitterroot river.
If you had a plane to carry the boats, it certainly wouldn't sip gas at 5-6 gal/hr like you have now.

Ditto on the previous replies. Nice place run by nice people. You could call them and probably find someone to rent you kayaks nearby.

I've talked to Tex, and even flown over him while he was landing (to the South). Sounded like a really nice place, and he seemed very accommodating when he was describing his place to us.

Don't know what to do about the kayaks though, I suppose you could stuff some ducky's in the back of the Luscombe....

Redneck Kayaks will fit. You can get them at most truck stops. Get three, you'll need the third one for the ice chest full of beer.

Great folks....reasonable prices...cheap fuel (relatively) ... wonderful rooms.... highest recommendation!!

Go there soon. The lodge will be featured in the next Pilot's Getaway...

Tex (he is not from Texas....ask him the story) loves aviation and is a supporter of our communities. RR

Sounds like a cool place to visit but I just can't bring myself to leave the kayaks behind...its tough to playboat in a ducky. Thanks for all the info.

Those Kleppers look cool, but possibly for a slightly more sedate use. I think Whee is one of those freaks that does stuff like this this:

Zane,

I'm a little rusty for stuff like that these days...school gets in the way of everything. Duckies are fun of some stuff but since I can't swim very well rolling is a must in critical situations.

When I don't get out much this is about as big as I go...

Re: West Fork Lodge (4U7) MT

Just came back from a weekend in Westfork 4U7 on 7 July. 2600 Ft Strip in good condition. Rooms are very attractive and Tex and Heidi most accomodating. Food is excellent and georgous scenery. Our group was 2 Bonanzas, a Cherokee, my Kitfox and a 1929 Fairchild Travel-Air. Easy in and out for all. Tex moved his Skylane to put the Travel-Air in his hanger for the night. Highly recommend it for a nice fly-in. Tex once made the remark, "If one pilot in one airplane lands, I'll quit what I am doing and cook for him." They monitor 122.9 and can give you a wind check if you ask.

Ditto. It was great seeing the Travel Air take off.

Tex & his wife cook the best omelets ever. Well worth finding any excuse you can think of to stop by and enjoy the place.

Folbots and Kleppers rock. Pricey, though, and there are others out there yet to try.
