Re: Historical Backcountry Aircraft

Well, the Beaver's really not that old a design, but it is truly one of the all time great backcountry machines...

Re: Historical Backcountry Aircraft

The Beaver has to be singularly the ultimate bush airplane and the picture above says it all.

Here's some real history! A.A. Bennett's Zenith biplane. http://www.peckaeroplanerestoration.com/z.htm

I love this thread.

This thing is so sweet: 1929 Hamilton Metalplane, originally flown by the Canadian Forestry Service:

The only airworthy example in existance is coming up for auction:

I'm going to keep an eye on this auction. I'll bet Ron Pratte might bid on this plane. (I think someone in another thread said he has a plane collection??)

Re: Historical Backcountry Aircraft

I have always liked the Bellanca Aircruiser. The one over at Tillamook used to be here in Medford. I saw it flying lots of times over the Rogue Valley. Friend of ours was Ericson's chief pilot and said it flew like a big Super Cub.

The one at the Tillamook Air Museum has the floats and ski's for it on display with the aircraft on wheels. It is so far the only flying one left although I saw on the wilkpedia that there is one in Canada under restoration.

Rudy Billberg flew the Pilgrim. This plane helped establish Northway AK before roads. This is a great book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/088240 ... HY5YY4R4BK,

the airplane is linked below.
