(9/30-10/1) Colorado High Plains Fly-in (pics and vids)

Alright, time to start thinking about this years fly-in. This will be the 5th annual fly-in and last year we had a great showing of planes and people. \:D/

Time: September 30th & October 1st, 2010 (Friday night and Saturday morning). 6:00pm (Fri) till Noonish (Sat).
Place: MountainMatt's
*marked power lines on the N side, trees on the S side.*
Usually Land to the N/ Takeoff to the S if winds permit
Airstrip is still ruff (8x6 tires are a plus). Also, don't land/taxi in the ditches.
Comm: 122.9

Friday: The evening will include a campfire, 40 ft hangar movie (PG13/R) and lots of pilot BS. Camping on the field is encouraged and you can sleep on a cot or an air mattress in the hangar if need be. There’s plenty of pasture for all.
Saturday: Breakfast (donations accepted) and flying activities. If you want to shoot skeet or targets, bring your weapon of choice (within reason), we'll have a low-tech range set up on the north forty. And of course, there will be flying activities.

Anyone with a sense of humor and a passion for aviation is welcome. Please contact me for a waiver prior to flying in (keeps the landlord happy). There are restroom facilities, power, and water in the hangar, but the water is pretty gross, so bringing some is a plus (we'll have some on hand too). Food and beverage for Friday night is on you, but we'll have a BBQ set up for use. Mosquito spray is a plus. It looks like the average temp this time is 72°/41°.

Please email or PM me in you plan on attending (so I have a headcount for breakfast) or if you have any questions.

Re: (9/30-10/1) Colorado High Plains Fly-in

Yesterday I went out there and spent some time/money getting things cleaned up and ready for the fly-in. I'm doing my best to smooth out the rwy for those of you with smaller tires. The south 2000' should be a great deal better than last years event, so if you have a nosewheel craft, you're welcome to join the party.

A friend of mine built a polish tank mock up to "bomb", we'll also have activities such as spot landings and short field takeoffs.

Weather looks to be great from now until the fly-in, mid 70's day and mid 40's at night.

Plenty of room for all, so if you have nothing to do the 30/1st, come on out. I'll be out there all day Friday, so your welcome to show up at any time.

Severe clear on the Front Range for the next 10 days!

With any luck, I should have my starter back from Sky-Tec by Friday.

Don't forget to bring tie-downs.

It wouldn't hurt to take the pant off, but the runway is pretty dang smooth as is (well, the south half is, overfly the north part). It would be great if you could swing by COKev, you'd be the first pacer to land at CD15. :D Breakfast starts at 7:30, but show up when/if you can, we'd love to have you!

c172tw, you'll be the first 172TW to land at CD15. 8) And the first Okie too.

Re: (9/30-10/1) Colorado High Plains Fly-in

Matt, we made it home just fine but with a horrible headwind. Stopped in Meadow Lake for a bit, got fuel. Went to Liberal, KS, then western OK.
Got back to Norman, OK after dark to see tons of jets lined up at my home field for the OU football game.

Thanks for the great time, awesome meeting you guys, and really looking forward to your videos. My vids turned out decent, but got a lot of vibration on the horizontal stabilizer from time to time.

Just a few of my pics from the fly-in. We had fantastic weather (almost a little too hot for Oct 1st). I think we had around 25 planes and about 80 people attend. c172tw was our long distance winner coming all the way from OKC. =D>

Many thanks to all those who helped out!

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

SuperChub is a highly modified Wag 2+2. Takes off in 200ft, carries a good amount of stuff, and cruises at almost 130mph, pretty cool plane if you ask me.

Awesome fly-in Matt! Everyone from Wray loved it. I think next year we may have a few more people come! We are already making plans for next year. Sorry I couldn't stay longer. I was pretty heavy and wanted to get out of there before the DA got any higher. Obviously you are running the flyin correctly as shown by the growth.

BTW: I think there were as many Maules(5) there as Cessnas(5). =D>
