2011 Minchumina stone-skipping: POSTPONED

Sounds like this year's stone-skipping contest has been set for 7/30/11. Not really a fly-in, per-se, but a good time, and unless you have an icelandic pony, or are a really good river navigator with a jet boat, well, it pretty much requires that you fly there.

Looking forward to getting back, after missing last year due to a bad cylinder. Here's the link from 2010, with some additional details:

Hope to see some of you there.

Re: 2011 Minchumina, AK stone-skipping contest

Hope to make it this year if the weather behaves and the river don't rise
Had a low sitting over the area for a month now, looks like another week of the same. Haven't seen anything above 1000' on the old altimeter in a LONG time

Re: 2011 Minchumina, AK stone-skipping contest

your right it has been like this all over the State. Looking at the weather cam it dose not look to bad . You on the other side of the rang might have some trouble getting in. Last I heard there was no gas so take a few extra gals. The Pike fishing is not to bad. If the rain holds up I might try to make it.

Not unless you are going to start a plane-skipping contest ;)

Update:

Weather is not so hot today- as of 09:30 AK Time, they are considering postponing the event until next week. Should be a final determination by 11:00 AM. Will post updates as I learn them.

***UPDATE***

The stone-skipping event at Lake Minchumina, AK is being postponed a week due to weather. It will be held on August 6th instead of today as previously announced.

Hoping to see some of you there under bluer skies in one week.

Wasn't going to be able to make it today anyway so for me this is good news. I'm 50/50 for next week ;)

Tomorrow looks like it could be partway decent. Of course there was snow at 3,000' today on the hills here...

Anyone else thinking of it? I'll be wearing my sweet new BCP gear which came in the mail today \:D/

Yes still wanting to go, but two words sum up this weeks weather (actually this whole summer) sh**t and sh**t. Guess we'll see what tomorrow brings, but I'm not holding my breath

Still aiming to set out from here, High BKN/OVC but the range is all out. Probably stay for the earlier part of the day only.

Think i will pass.
Weather here to the Nulato's a mixture of occasional broken blue and lots of scud and fog. One thing to thread the needle when i have to, another to take the risk with the kids.
Thinking of changing my user name to "Scudhawk"

Very true!
But this summer has been particularly crappy weather  Another good reason for not taking the camera along, wouldn't want any documentation of the excellent VFR weather i'm flying :^o

Great day today- at least 11 visiting planes, including 3 floatplanes. Weather held off all day. Will put up some more pics as I get a chance.

No BCPers I noticed, but lots of nice flying folks and locals just the same.

Wife said Chena Hot Springs and shopping. So that's where we went instead  Heard plenty of Minchumina-bound planes on the CTAF as I was flying north.
