2011 Graham Fly-In :: Come hear tall tales from Bushy.

This is my very first img tag on backcountry. Can we throw a party? How about a fly-in? How about the Graham Fly-In? --Complete with new Fly-Outs!
Ever since Patrol Guy was put in 3D, we've not been able to find him. We can hear him circling around, but until we perfect this 3D thing I'm filling in for him on promotions.

Come one, come all!
Bring a buddy--fat and small.
Bring a Grizzlie or a Lion
Leave the babies if they're cryin'
Bring small tires, never fear.
But do bring extra landing gear!

(just kidding OH82 is kept for all planes that can land on grass)

Image

Almost out of battery here so get here however you can. It's a big, long grass runway. It will be swell and the next weekend is Elizabethton, TN's "Fall Colors" extravaganza, complete with BP gas station next door. You won't want to miss it. I think it's 270mi from here. But there are many a place to stop and camp along the way, so go MIA for 10 days of insanity.

I'm going to do everything I can to make it! I hope there's room for me...

Cheers.

I'm trying to bring at least one wingman and I'm also working on bringing my wife and kids (not so sure about these just yet -- by the way, my kids aren't allowed to cry). I don't think my oldest son (he's 4) will stop singing "you've got to have phat tires" until I introduce him to the originator of that video!

Yesterday we had some famous pilots stop in for some hillside action...all three generations of the "Bob Breeden's".

John,

My partner and I intend on coming. We just got the wrap on the 701 done and if I can get the hours flown off I will bring it along. It will take me one hour longer than the Maule but I like to fly!

Looking forward to finally making it out there.

Re: 2011 Graham Fly-In :: Come hear tall tales from Bushy.

Hello all. This is just an update for the Ohio Bush Planes/Graham Field fly-in (see poster above).

This year's fly outs will be all new and easier grass strips. These should work out so that anyone use to landing grass will be ok. (Last year's organ strip was a little too hairy for the average pilot).

We are going to do a "Recon" weekend soon to get the West Virginia portion nailed down with way points etc. This West Virginia section will be immediately following our fly-in and will lead to the East Tennessee fly-in the next weekend. So that you can make this a 10 day grass strip extravaganza.

Of course there is the optional "Ohio Hill's" to play on for those wishing to "hang it all on the line" too.

Some video from last year:

Re: 2011 Graham Fly-In :: Come hear tall tales from Bushy.

I forgot. Bill and Diana from "Alaska BushWheels" will be here again.

They are like a NASCAR pit stop. Besides having in stock big tires, wheels, and brakes they have all sorts of tail wheels, springs, and replacement parts...all on hand and ready to install on site, operating from their warehouse/shop on wheels.

Bring your check books if you might be in the market for any of this stuff. You leave with free installation, all the STC paper work, and the tires on your bird the same day! You save on expensive freight too.

Is this an excuse to sit around and tell lies but without having to put the worm on the hook? :D
Just one of these years I wish my vacation would line up with a cool event like this.

Foxred, get a bigger fan and keep plugging away. Hope you make it.

Greg just released some "secret-private" video from last year's fly-in. This will disappear again when the FAA goes back to work.

And those old 2010 videos keep popping up. Here is the fly-in from a totally different perspective..inverted!

Re: 2011 Graham Fly-In :: Come hear tall tales from Bushy.

We had a recon day exploring part of West Virginia for the "Connecting" fly out between Graham Field and East Tennessee's. We found some great stopping places and over night camping spots.

I've always loved Hawk's Nest but that island airstrip might even be better.

Hey guys and gals, here is Greg's video of the "recon" we did last week for the West Virginia connecting part of the two fly-ins. These stop ideas are still fluid and some may be dropped and others added. http://vimeo.com/27725973
