Oyster fly-in to celebrate airport rebirth
The Willapa Harbor Pilots Association (Raymond, WA) will celebrate significant airport improvements at the Willapa Harbor Airport with an oyster feed fly-in on Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 11 am-5 pm. $10 will get all comers oysters and a healthy selection of sides. The Willapa Harbor Airport was one of eight in Washington State marked as “endangered” because of years of disrepair and neglect. Local pilots forged a productive working relationship with the Port of Willapa Harbor, airport owner. Serious drainage issues have been corrected, the runway and taxiways and aircraft parking areas have been resurfaced, airport security lighting upgraded, runway overruns improved for added safety, and buildings painted. The pilots association has joined with the Port Authority in refurbishing the pilots ready room. Also, more than $800,000 was invested in critical repairs to a large protective dike that was breached during a winter storm. Pilots association Secretary Robert Scrim can be reached at 360/942-7899 for information relating to overnight accommodations and rides to and from the airport.
