Backcountry Pilot

So I have had a number of emails and requests for another fly in. Thinking that our desert location is best for everyone and a really cool spot with a lot of different fly out options for all types of planes and fuel is close.

Lets do the weekend of the 27-28th October at what we call "3 Shot Gun Shells"....(Same lake bed as last year). We can camp out Friday night and Saturday with the real shin dig going down Saturday night.

I will bring a bunch of firewood and as we get closer we can go from there. Its on! I hope to see you there!

Heck...since this is the 2nd annual, I will even have some T-Shirts made

You should come join us Whee! Its going to be fun. Have already heard from at least 12 or so that will be there. Coordinates I will try to post. Did anyone get them last year by chance? It is very easy to find. Hit Carson City, continue east for 5 minutes and hang a right turn. You wont miss the small lake bed in the hills. Will post more details as we get closer. Lets make this thing grow! Its really good flying out there!

My schedule has me "in town" for now.
I'll put the "Pod" on and bring firewood.
Hopefully, with this much notice, we'll have a good turnout.

North a bit Smith a bit...When you leave Dayton or Carson stay over the road to the first dry lake bed thats next to the highway. Then turn right and fly for 3-5minutes. (like your going to Rosachi, but not that far)(and not that lake bed north of Rosachi) Its a small lake bed in the hills there. Cant miss it.

Rob will post coords soon here. Betting we get close to 50 planes by the emails I have received.

So looking at a sectional now...follow the power-lines that leave Carson KCXP to the east. Below the unicom freq at Dayton there is a power-line symbol at 5 o clock. Thats the lake bed location. Power lines are maybe 1/4 mile north of the lake bed. Its the only one out there.

I'm not too sure where Smith Valley is but it's the small dry lake bed about 1500-1800 ft across with a dirt road that runs along the north side going east to west. Its not that far northwest of Yerrington, probably less than 10 miles. Its easy to spot since it is all white and everything else is brown.

I hate the thought of missing the local fly-in & camp-out......

But I already have a trip to Baja on the books for that weekend....plane filled with friends, some pretty ones!

So....you guys go bag some playas & ridge lines, and I'll go bag some Dorado & Yellowtail!

OK, know it well. The road is Julian Lane and it runs from Wabuska over to Smith Valley, or you can go over the pass to Minden. I live just over the hill in Dayton, and run my four-wheelers in those mountains if I want a close to home ride.
