BLM trying to close ALL! BLM strips in Oregon

Monday at the meeting of Oregon Pilots Association, Troutdale Chapter we had a report from members who were at the state meeting. One of the topics was the BLM closing strips. One in particular, Pinnacle Ranch. The BLM dumped boulders on the strip to make it unusable. The BLM denied Pinnacle Ranch was ever a airstrip. We have a member who has a 1972 WAC chart with Pinnacle Ranch on it. Very telling about the mind set of the BLM managers.

I will post the emails I have if I get permission from the folks involved. The Idaho Aviation Association and RAF are all over this. I would plead with you in the strongest terms to support these organizations they are the best hope to save air strips!

All so see mountainmatts post in Hot Air on a closely related matter.

Good day...Rob

Hey Rob, You must have missed my report on the Pinnacle Ranch about a month or two ago. You might be thinking of the airstrip just north of the Pinnacle Ranch on the west side of the river?

Anyway, the Pinnacle Ranch is in excellent shape! (at least it was about a month or two ago when I went down there). In fact, the strip is being watered and mowed :-k. The only thing missing is a wind sock and permission to land.

The October 9th post I was in Africa, thats how I missed it. According to the report I got on Monday BLM has dumped rock on it so it is not usable. I got several emails between the RAF, IAF, OPA, ODA. I'll share if the authors give me the ok.

One of our chapter members is also a board member of The Oregon Department of Aviation.

Good day

Sounds good. If I'm bored enough next week while I'm home, I'll take another drive out there. I kind of wanted to check out the Mahogany Mountains area anyway. Just not the best time of year to be out there on my own. The road can be pretty muddy and snowy.
