As far back as I can remember, I've always been fascinated by airplanes, and of course warbirds like the Mustang and Spitfire. I sat in a P-51 cockpit at Nut Tree airport in CA, closed the canopy and just took it all in . . . logged 20 minutes of static P-51 cockpit time in my log book! Never thought I'd ever have the opportunity to fly in one . . .
Then a few years ago, following helping Chris Woods dad get familiar with his new ASH26E, they asked me if I'd like to go up in "February". I was darn near speachless . . . there's no way I would have been so presumptious as to ask for a ride, but here they were asking me! I called my wife and told her what I was about to get to do

. I still have the pictures and will always have the memories. This was before Chris made the film "Gray Eagles".
I've seen some really nice P-51 restorations. "February" is right up there with the best. In the wheel wells, there's not a crossed over wire in the wiring looms. Everything I could see is pretty much perfect. It is all painted, not bare aluminum, but I think that would be the only liberty taken with not staying true to what they flew during the war.
