Photo thread: Amazing weather

I thought we already had a photo thread on this subject but I can't find it.

I'll start. From the Boston Globe:

I took this picture last June or July from inside the house. The sun was just setting.

This month's (Nov-Dec 2010) Audubon Magazine has a whole writeup on supercells. Wow!!

Some days maybe it's better to be underground, wishing you were on the ground, than to be on the ground, wishing you were underground!

Re: Photo thread: Amazing weather

A shot from this past weekend. So far I have just over 23 hours in my training and I was on a solo practice flight to several local runways. I was on my way to the last one when this fog bank appeared and started flowing down over an entire mountain range. The cealing was around 5000 feet and then this showed up a few hundred feet off the ground all the way up to 1500. In this picture the airport I was trying to make it back to was off the nose to the right and just under that thin strip of fog and that fog was moving very fast. I thought I might have to head south to another airstrip and wait it out, but by the time I got in the pattern there was a big enough break to land safely. It wasnt probably a big deal, but at this stage in my training it was a first for me to see how quickly things can change.

In August I landed back at home just as this was moving in. A short while later, all hell broke loose.
