Bearhawk Canyon flight

Hello All,

I sent a new prototype mount to Mike Creek for testing and he recently posted a video of him flying low through a canyon. I originally sent the prototype to Georg but after his unfortunate accident, he put me in touch with Mike. This same prototype is also being tested on a Rans S6 and an Interstate Cadet so the mount will fit a wider range of models then the current one I sell which was specifically designed for the Cessna & Stinson 108.

Here is a link to the video: http://vimeo.com/89347437
at 2:33 you can see a coyote freaking out with the low pass...

The Bearhawk has a bit more vibration then the diminutive 172 I fly so the video has a bit more jello than normal, but I think it still looks great. This was the first try and I have asked Mike to place the camera a bit higher on the strut closer to the wing junction since that area may have less vibration since its more rigid there. Also in the video he was throttling up and down quite a bit which sends more vibration on and off through the air-frame.

Enjoy,

Mike said that the fisheye lens of the GoPro flattened out the walls of the canyon and the video looks a bit more sedate then it felt when he flew it. Still, it looks likes one fun ride...

Cool flying vid. I'd love to go explore some canyon land like this in a plane.

Any photos or details on the mount? I use a Drift, but the strut mount is one of my favorite locations. Currently I use the drift helmet mount, some 1/4" foam padding and a couple strips of duct tape.

It looks like Blackrock is training for the Reno Air Races.

Here is a link to an online album with Images of the mount on various aircraft. The ones in the pics are from the Cessna / Stinson 108 version.

The version used in this video is a bit different since it is a more universal prototype. I have a few people using the Drift with my mount. Most notably from this group is Allen MacBean who uses it on his AOTF.TV web show. As well as a few other Backcountry Pilot members. Let me know what plane you would like a mount for and I will let you know what I have that will fit and I will be able to answer our questions more in detail. Feel free to reply offline to my email below.

Take care,

No way my eye balls could do that! Too much attention outside to worry about the TC. Probably why the yote survived!

That is some awesome flying Blackrock. Looks like the kind I like to do around my place. Great video.

On screen for less than a second. Passes right under the nose at 2:33 - 2:34. Almost just a dot, but running!

You can see the coyote a few seconds before 2:33 running around in circles not knowing what to do.

Hello Bearbuilder,

Here are a few shots of the mount on Mike's Bearhawk. They are just frontal shots so yo cant see the adjustable rear clamp portion. If you have any questions feel free to email or PM me.

The Force is definitely preferable.

I was really hoping someone else would reference the Force so wouldn't feel like such a nerd...

Sorry, Whee, but having company doesn't necessarily exempt you from being a nerd.

I mean, hell, there's probably a whole convention full of people out there who might have joined you in that reference...

Thanks for the mount pictures. That looks a bit more elaborate than what I need right now. The rotating lens and sensor on the drift makes aircraft mounting a whole lot easier. For right now I'm mounting it on a Challenger II, but will eventually be putting it on a Bearhawk Patrol. I'm pretty sure the Patrol uses the same strut stock as the 4 place.

Re: Bearhawk Canyon flight

I'm traveling so slow responding. I've tried 3 different cameras and lots of different mounts over the last 2 years. Marc's is by far the best external mount I've used. It is quick to attach, allows for a wide range of movement/adjustment to position the camera, and is very stable in flight. Feel free to ask if anyone had questions about it. My first thoughts when I opened the box were WOW, this is high quality workmanship and a very well designed system so if any one is considering a strut mount, I certainly recommend it.

Hello Mike,

Thank you for the kind words. Your video is by far my favorite of all the videos taken using my mount thus far. Makes me want to forget my Bearhawk LSA plan set and buy a quick build kit to get in the air faster...
