If possible I would like to get a copy of the 337 also. Just in case I feel the need to go big.

I would love to get a copy of that also. I've got a set of 3 bolt wheels sitting here that I have wanted to put the bigger tires on.

Thanks

Okay, waxing naive here. It's legit to put on the big tires with just a 337? No STC or FAA annointing required? Does it require a specific wheel and caliper?

Is it important to keep this 337 private? Or can we post it here for future searchers?

The FAA MAY favorably consider a Field Approval (via 337) application if you can provide an example that has already been approved. But, you're still going to have together your own field approval.

I would love to get a copy also. The guy I bought my 180 from told me the day we made the deal, that he had just determined that his A&P had failed to turn in the paper work for the Good Year 26" tires. So I have the tires mounted on 3 bolt rims but can't use them.

If anyone is interested I have a set of Goodyear wheels and six disks all in new condition. Back in the day C180's were flown up here on wheels then put on floats and skis, the wheels never went on again. Don't know what they're worth.

Zane I suggest a place or library to store 337's for future reference like the 180/185 club does =D> I've got one for stall fences where can I send it?

Re: 337 for goodyear 26" tires using 3 bolt wheels

Just wondering if there are any other copies of 337 using 3 bolt wheels, Cleveland p/n 40-75D? The 337 PDF's I got from bcdpilot both are for 6 bolt wheels, Cleveland p/n 40-75T.

Thanks,

Marty

Re: 337 for goodyear 26" tires using 3 bolt wheels

I recently talked with a guy at Cleveland Wheel & Brakes tech support. He told me that the load rating on the 3 bolt 40-75D is the same as the load rating on the 6 bolt 40-75T. He then sent me proof. Drawings of both wheels. Their ratings are on each drawing.

Re: 337 for goodyear 26" tires using 3 bolt wheels

I have a copy of a 337 for 26" Goodyears. The description only says "Removed the existing main tires and tubes and installed 26"X10.5"X6" Goodyear tires and tubes on the main gear". It doesn't say anything about what type of wheels, although they happen to be three-bolt Clevelands.

Re: 337 for goodyear 26" tires using 3 bolt wheels

The Alaska Region FAA developed a "Tundra Tire Worksheet" for use in these kinds of installations. I heard that its no longer used, but it gave specific instructions for mechanics and inspectors for approving bigger tires.

There's also a letter from AK Engineering that essentially approves 8.50 x 6.00 tires on most Cessna taildraggers. Steve at Atlee Dodge has that.

Here is a 337 and the tundra tire worksheet for 26" Goodyears on a '53 170B, with 180 gear legs, steel axles, and double-puck, three-bolt Clevelands.

If Zane or someone else smart enough wants to make these into PDFs and/or add them to the knowledge base, be my guest.

Nice paperwork, DP. LOne big advantage of the computer age is that they are being used to generate logbook entries etc so that they are actually legible. I can't count how many times in the past I couldn't quite make out something in a logbook entry due to poor handwriting
The 337's these days crack me up in that the ICA's usually take up more room (saying nothing) than the important part (the description of the work performed) does. Thanks esp for the tundra tire worksheet- I've heard those mentioned before but never seen one.
I have an approved 337 for 26" GY's on my C150/150TD, issued in 1993. No mention of 6 bolt wheels, no ICA, no mention or sign of tire worksheet. It does note tire slippage marks, new solid aluminum axles installed, and new W&B computed.

I edited my post above to mention that the above installation also uses steel axles. They're considered to be stronger than solid aluminum, which I had previously. I don't know if steel axles are necessary for Goodyears. I had previously upgraded to steel for ski applications.
