Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

That's the first A model I've seen with the pressure cowl of a 53-56 B model.

Matt, yes, BD has Franklin 220 power (it's sister "Lucky Rose" is kept on floats, same motor)

Flew my cub during lunch.

My dad let me borrow his handheld for the J-3. Poor airplane has been neglected in the corner of the hangar, so we took it out, and down to the river after work.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Well I finally managed to get a half hour in today. I just got my propeller back after being re-pitched. It was awesome! I went from a 54" pitch to 52". I gained about 50-75 rpm. I didn't notice a huge difference in take off performance but I sure saw an increase in climb. I was able to hold 1100 fpm at 70 mph with two kids and 1/2 tanks! I also finaly got my new led nav/strobes installed.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Got my first "log-able" tailwheel time today. Also my first hours in my own airplane! It was fu*&ing awesome. Ill just say I'm glad there is new bungees on the Ol' Savage. The takeoffs left a little to be desired. The whole "gyroscopic precession" thing is something to grasp in a tailwheel. A Cherokee really numbs your feel for this. The takeoffs did get better and better, but I will say the little tail wheel airplane will humble you very quickly.

The landings- Bounced her in a few times, but it was over quickly because the airplane flies so slow. The last landing was the best so decided to quit on a good note.

I had read in the interweb about the stall characteristics of the Savage Cub and I gotta say what I read was right. When its done flying, it's done. No buffet or warning or floating at all. It just drops like a rock onto the runway. We only did single notch flaps landings also.

All in all, I love the way it flies. It feels like a rocket ship, and we had a good bit of weight in the plane today.

Sorry, no pics or video. I forgot my camera, dammit.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Finished my C-12 qualification today!

Heading to the FSDO next week to update my civilian ticket. It'll add Commercial AMEL and Instrument Airplane!

Also emailed a guy about adding an ASEL to the rating. I don't think it'll take but a flight or two and then my first civilian checkride.
