I'm just asking a simple question to spark up what I thought would be an interesting conversation about different types of planes that YOU would have, suggest, plan, and dream to have as a cross country plane. But you guys are right when reality sinks in. Any plane would be greatly enjoyable!

If money were no object to me. I'd have a nice collection of vintage jets for the long trips. I'd have a 727 for the long haul, a G2 for the trips under 3000nm, and a Lear 2? for the short trips.

Mine x country/ back country plane.... Helio Stallion!!! What is it a plane that needs a little less than 400 feet to take off and land with a PT-6 and will cruise in the 250 knot range!

Sorry boys, I'm gonna have to go with this one- esp if it will really do 250 knots!
Or as long as we're blue-skying, how about a DC-3 with turboprop conversion? Shit, how about just a stock DC3?

Wiki sez 160 knot cruise for the Helio Stallion. Much more believable.

I'm thinking that Ford Excursion with the Power Stroke would be the way to go. Plenty of room, power to pull a trailer if need be, no Class B and no TFR's popping up.

No problem with IFR or icing conditions either.
