Utah/Idaho BCP.org fly in Report

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Utah/Idaho BCP.org fly in Report

Postby mountainmatt » Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:48 pm

Shep and I left on a 6 day/1400 nm trip. The weather was great and the Stinson exceeded my expectations.

I planned on staying in Utah for one more day, but the 105°F heat and the mosquitoes got the best of us and we packed up for the chill of Idaho.

Route: Our PVT strip, Blake/Delta (KAZJ), Mineral Canyon (UT75), Mexican Mountain, Hunington (69V), Delle, Burly (KBYI), Smiley Creek (U87), Sulphur Creek (ID74), Johnson Creek (3U2), Soldier Bar (85U), Big Creek (U60), McCall (KMYL), Indian Creek (S81), Upper Loon Creek (U72), Alpine (46U), Platte Valley, our PVT strip.

Thanks for all the memories and we'll sure to be back next year. If you have any questions, or want to see any of the pictures. let me know. But I'll save the time and not bore you with the 1000+ pictures and 15 mintues of video I took.

Cheers
Matt and Shep

Wow! Beautifully done, and really inspiring. Seriously one of the nicest flying videos I've ever seen.

The old picture of the Stinson on the wall at Sulphur Creek gave me goose bumps.

Thanks for putting that together and sharing it.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet you and Shep soon!

awesome pictures and video's. Please if you can place some of your video's such as Soldier bar on shortfield.com along with pictures. Then they are readily available and provide info for others! :)

Matt,

Thank you for sharing. That video was a very good reminder of why I wanted to learn to fly and why I like backcountry stuff.

Once I get a plane I'll have to hit you up and chat about your routing more since I think I live near you...I'm in Colorado Springs near Meadow Lake airport.

Thanks guys, VERY kind words coming from such a group of people. :D

Rob, like I said, it's too bad we didn't live closer, your M7 is the cats meow and it was a blast tailing you around the ID backcountry.

Cool video, but the landing at Soldier Bar scared the  out of me. That part of the runway that went wizzing by is a nice place to land.

I agree, the bottom part is much nicer to land on, less rocks/bumps. I was told bad info and landed on the the technical part. (Which wasn't to bad if you picked the right spot, the camera bobbing around just makes it look worse.)

Great video!! Made me wish I was there even more.

I have never been into Soldier Bar but have studied it real close and talked to several people about the approach and such. I could help but think, "if I was Rob I'd be running scared"...haha. Very sweet though, wish I was there to follow you guys around.

Did you start your dog young when it comes to riding in the plane? I just bought my wife a 7 week old german shepherd...want to take him up but can't decide if I should wait a while or do it now.
