A big dark cloud over the Idaho backcountry

Anyone notice there isn't much of a picture report of our annual Johnson Creek fly-in this year?
In the past everyone proudly posted their backcountry experience with lots of great pictures and videos.
Not this year, it has been tainted with an environmentalists view.
I felt there was uneasiness at JC this year and thats a bummer! Another feather in the cap of those who want to keep us out.

Terry, I kinda' noticed something different too...MtnMatt's deal and Bobby's not withstanding. I'm sure a lot of us had a good time. As for myself I had a great time and did five new strips, just haven't had time to prepare pictures and videos the way I want to. I'll see if I can't get some videos posted. I have a beautiful one of appraoch and landing at Upper Loon.

I have tos of pics and video. I am to busy FLYING!!!!! To post but I will when the wx gets bad. I would rather fly than post.

Beenat PC 2 nights flying and partying with family. At Troutdale now going to mow hay. Back to da beach this evenig.

Come on down to PC for camp fire and drinks. Camp at my lot. Nice grass.

Not that I did much flying this year, but I'm trying to get some pics and video done. My biggest problem is my work laptop can't handle the HD videos. So, it has to be done at home...which means a few minutes here and there between spending time with the kids and Dee. I really got to get my own laptop so I can do it while I'm on the road!

big dark cloud...? the crowd down on the south end by corey and myself, now they were having FUN...! donna and the blue maule music guys did indeed have a blast, good tunes,friends and such. me, after flying there that day and getting beat to hell in the bumps, i slept like a dog!

I'm with Jomac. I had a great time at JC. Having watched, with increasing unease, all the crap flying around on the web in the weeks before I went, I was pleasantly surprised at how laid back and normal everything felt once I actually got to JC. I welcomed the disconnect--it was very reassuring to know that I can still fly my ass off in some really cool places, ogle a bunch of neat airplanes I can't afford, have too many drinks hanging out with old friends and making new ones, casually hang out around legends like Pops Dory, and create unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime, regardless of whether people are arguing with each other on the boards and even if the feds show up to watch the party.

In other words, I was really relieved to discover that the entire JC thing still is, and will continue to be for me, one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had as a pilot.

God bless this great country where we still get to do things like this, and God bless the Idaho backcountry!!!!!

BCP's, it occurs to me that the issue with Eco-whiners and back country strips might not be about the actual use of those strips but about the zillion people being made aware of it. There seems to be a great many people with an over developed sense of the value of their opinions, access to the Internet and no life.
Making videos is a neat addition to the experience of flying into some of the coolest places in the universe to fly in to. Maybe it's just some editing of who gets access to those videos that we need to focus on. I have a kick ass video that my son took of down wind, base and final around the Hogsback at Big Creek that I was going to post to YouTube one of these days but maybe I'll just use beer to bribe my buddies to come watch it, again.

I'm probably one of the ones to fit in this category And I'm betting the ones that started some of the negative crap in the weeks before the BCP and SC fly ins were not even there I would have been at the BCP fly in for sure. But, I had to work out of state that weekend

Glad everybody ended up having fun! I do wish there is a way to have all the video's in a secure locked private thread that only us BCPers can view. That would be neat. But, I'm enjoying the pics and video's some have posted so far. Thanks.

x2, and well said. Definitely no clouds over the Idaho backcountry for me this year. In fact, on Saturday morning at lower loon there was literally and figuratively not a single cloud that could be seen - it was a perfect moment in a perfect place with the perfect group of people, what backcountry flying to me is really about.

I was very aware of the drama here leading up to the fly-in, but as others have stated, it was nearly the last thing on my mind the entire weekend.
