There's a 12-step program, but I never make it past step 2 so I can't help you.

Several years ago I was hired to work on fixing some of their code, and it was horribly written. I pity the fool...

I vaguely seem to remember Lorraine at one time taking credit for developing the code and the website, she had been some sort of prehistoric computer programmer or something??? Was that your understanding or do I have this mixed up?

She and I locked horns quite a bit some years back. I'm sure that comes as quite a surprise to the folks here...

Why all the love of this site? Maybe it's me, but I find it to be horribly organized, difficult to use. Much prefer trade-a plane or controller.com. What am I missing?

I go there since it seems much more listings per day, stuff I never see on TAP, Controller, or ASO...which I peruse too

TAP has been in the stone age until recently...using your word, horrible. Controller is good but because its more expensive, they seem to turn over fewer and fewer planes. If I look up older 182's, almost every plane on there has been there 3 months and beyond.

Barnstormers will have a dozen pages every day, makes you feel like if you haven't checked in daily you've missed out. They aren't perfect though.

I've personally had experiences where I sent in my check to Trade-O-Plane, then put an ad on Barnstormers a day or so later, and the airplane was sold before the TAP paper came out.

IMHO When TAP went online, the way they did it and the functionality of their site was just not competitive with Barnstormers .

Barnstormers became the #1 resource for airplane stuff the same way as Craigslist obsoleted every other online newspaper and bulletin board before it - by making it clean, straightforward, a minimum amount of extra clicks and hoops to jump through, and very quick page loads with few distractions.

Barnstormers caught Trade-a-Plane with its pants down the same way as Craigslist took the beloved old Recycler newspaper down, and did it for the same reason Google put Yahoo and Alta Vista in the tar pit overnight.

That old woman is cranky and kooky and has a couple of cold solder joints... but she absolutely hit a home run with Barnstormers and she's to be commended for the accomplishment of putting it on top and keeping it there.

EZ,

That's exactly the part I don't get. Seem hard to search, and if I search on say, "Cessna 172" I'll get two or three 172s, then an ad for a Learjet, ultralight, or something else totally unrelated - not to mention ads for things like "Cessna 172 Left Hand Door Handle" and other assorted parts mixed in with the ads for entire aircraft. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, or just an old fuddy duddy - I liked trade a plane's old fashioned website. The new one kinda stinks.

This was one of the times I am glad I live on the other side of the planet. I just went to bed, woke up and Barnstormers was running again!

Barnstormers, in my opinion, works best from the "Browse Adds" feature. If you select browse adds, Cessna, C-172 you can view for hours. Plus you can go back every day and see a lot more new adds then the other sites.

I like Trade-a-plane, but Barnstormers is definitely my favorite. Probably because it is so easy to peruse for hours while you daydream about all the aircraft you could own. T-a-plane is too hard to just browse since it only shows one photo.

That's because of the way people post their ads, not due to BS sorting them. People select the categories, keywords, and such to get their ads shown. I agree that part sucks. I can search for Pacer and get some, PA22 and get more, PA-22 even more, but the best way is to drum down the categories and I usually get most if not all of them.

I think this is the answer. Doing a global site search for "Cessna 172" is not the way to do it. The category list on the left side of the page will limit your search to that sub-category ("Cessna Parts" as opposed to "Cessna 172 (for sale)"

The advertisements in between the classified ads is relatively new. Nobody likes it of course, but it is the only way for them to maximize the investment value to the advertiser and keep their staff and rent paid.

Using Browse and Category is what I always do. I always start with the Experimental section and go from there.
