FAA issues warning to passenger who filmed bird strike
The FAA investigated and sent Cardone a letter after the story received widespread media attention. The video shows a flock of birds hitting the right engine, causing it to shut down.
We have given consideration to all of the facts. In lieu of legal enforcement action (a civil penalty), we are issuing this letter which will be made a matter of record for a period of two years, after which, the record will be expunged," James Giles, FAA supervisory principal operations inspector, wrote in a letter to Cardone.

After reading the article, I am reminded of this one, a true classic. All you Net Nannies watch out, he uses a few bad words.

Similar thing happened here in Jackson Hole when a 757 ran off the end of the runway.. They were ready to throw the pilts under the bus for a bad landing... till.............. The video showed up on YouTube. Word on the street is the feds wanted to fine the guy who took the video... #-o

... It clearly shows a mechanical failure and the Cap't Tim and the FO did an OUTSTANDING job... They touched down at the very beginning of the runway as if they were landing on a carrier and once they figured they were going off the end they steered the plane to the right to clear the light towers for the MALS and not too right as to run into the irrigation ditch... That crew needed to get a bonus. [-o< 8)

At the same time the FAA has approved iPads for cockpit use on 91, 135 AND 121 aircraft. OK, the 121 and 135 guys have to do some testing but I don't think it includes very sophisticated avionics testing.

INSPECTOR: "Did the needles move when you turned it on or off?"
PILOT: "No."
INSPECTOR: "Ok, you're approved."

Common sense would tell you an iPad in seat 16F on a 757 should be no different. Oh wait, common sense. Sorry, I forgot who I was dealing with.

And if the user was smart he'd have said the device was in airplane mode which possibly disables the transmit receive mode?

He missed a great opportunity to threaten legal action against the FAA, on the basis that it is also illegal for birds to enter an aircraft engine, and the FAA did not uphold its responsibility to properly warn the birds, thus endangering air safety.

Boy I could have had a ball with that one....
