AirVenture 2012

Postby WilgaBeast » Wed Apr 04, 2012 5:07 pm

Who else is planning on attending AirVenture this year?

I'd LOVE to have a backcountry gathering of some sort this year. Anyone?

Image

My route this year starts at an airshow in Rifle, CO... A visit with a pal for a few days in Colorado Springs, then off to Sioux Falls for an airshow before AirVenture. I'd love to meet some of you strange folk that prefer terrain over hard surfaces. :)

WilgaBeast,
You may want to pencil in the annual fly-in of the MAAA (Montana Antique Aircraft Association) on your calendar. It's always (check though) the weekend AFTER Oshkosh, and is a breath of fresh air as in real informal but at the same time a great assortment of all kinds of airplanes and the characters who fly, restore, and build them. Good gravel bar flying nearby also! Three Forks, Montana, west of Bozeman a bit.

I can't make OSH this year, but when you stop in COS, we should grab a beer. I live right at KFLY, Meadowlake Airport in Colorado Springs.

I'll be there again this year for the entire show, 9 days.

Our group camps down on the south end across the street from the ultralight barn. I'll most likely fly my Kitfox into the ultralight field again. :D

Look for the yellow Kitfox with the black stripe. I'll have my cell # on the prop tag.

Im planning on being there. Went to Sun N Fun last weekend but spent most of my time under the wing or in my tent because I got a cold the day after I flew in... Never been to Oshkosh but hopefully this will be my year to do so. Im flying up with a couple people too.

I would love to BUT!!!! always a BUTT. We are building a new home at the beach and that will necessitate concessions on the week long trips. So as AirVenture gets closer we will see where we are on building. If the subs are gone then I'll take the week off.

On a high note the new place is right next to Pacific City airport, right next to the beach. 20 min drive to Sandlake OHV area.

Hey EAA you reading this? I won't have to take your SHIT that I can't ride my bike inside the gate, while constantly dodging every so called VIP muthafucka in their golf carts and gators. FU and your get your ass on the JD tractor train with the rest of the sheepoll.

good day #-o

Didn't make it last year, so commited to flying up there this time. Will be camping in the north 40 I think. Still trying to figure out how to get around, broke my hip a while back and can't walk too for anymore. Who else is going? :D

I plan to be there the whole week. Last year it felt like I was camped half way to Fon du Lac, clear on the south end, but the bus service took the effort out of getting here and there. RF take note--just have to be in the tent around 10, because the bus service stops soon after that, and you don't want to be stranded somewhere.

Not sure I'd use OM's "diplomatic approach" to the EAA, but I agree--very tempting to hijack some of the golf carts, especially the ones that zip by splashing mud, driven by over grown teenagers. That was a regular and loud beef on the EAA forums last year, after Airventure.

Good fun.

I also camp there at Relleumdats, a quiet one with the loud group at the back. Usually just for the first few days, then it's nice to pop over to New Holstein to the Supercub flyin.

I'd love to meet up in Colorado - may be able to head over to Rifle to catch up or down to the Springs.

Not currently planning to go to Oshkosh, unless I can get a ride with someone...

This is also where we are camping. (Am I talking to AKA Bandit?)

We are in the front field, by the barn usually. EAA Chapter UL75 group.

COOL! Looks like Colorado is going to be fun... After the Rifle airshow I'll be spending a few days near KFLY (plane will sleep there).

I'll be at KFLY the 16th July through the 19th or 20th. Maybe we should do a fly-in dinner or something with everyone. I'm sure between my friends there and others we can arrange ground transport for people that fly over.

I need to be at Sioux Falls Friday afternoon so weather dependent I may leave on the 19th or the 20th (the WilgaBeast is VFR only).

@AirVenture, I was lucky to be invited to share a room at a hotel on the field (I'm a very strong supporter of the CAF and will fly some of the warbird iron throughout the week - haven't missed an AirVenture since 97'). But my interests are migrating to enjoy the backcountry culture. The fly-in-camp-in's I've attended draw a crowd that I've really enjoyed...

Back to the topic - I'm game for throwing together BCP potluck!
