Floatplane hours Anyone? MN-FL

Floatplanes are as much a staple of exploring the backcountry as anything. If you do it on water, share here.

Floatplane hours Anyone? MN-FL

Postby 185 Bushbird » Wed Sep 21, 2011 5:44 am

Anyone want a fun fall float flying vacation? It is time to bring the floatplanes back to Florida again for the winter season, we plan to leave sometime after september 25th, weather permitting. I will have 2 seats available, [left seat - dual instruction] in the C172 and C180, costs ate C172-$100/hr and C180-$120/hr, 1 night lodging enroute, meals, return airline ticket back from Orlando - MCO. We have free lodging at our place at the fun & famous Cherry Pocket Bar & Resturant [cherrypocket.com] and a ride back to Orlando airport. I may also need a floatplane CFI for this next year in FL and MN and might be willing to train the right person for doing SES ratings and sightseeing rides, let me know if interested as this could be a good opportunity for someone!

Thanks
Brian

Mike, I know you don't need anymore float time for the airline! If you know of someone with a personality & passion for float & tailwheel flying, send em my way, say hi to Lowell for me!

Sounds like fun, Brian. I have a Commercial ASEL/ASES/Instrument with PIC time in a C-180 on amphibs, DHC-2 on amphibs, PJ3 on straight floats and BC-12D on straight floats. I also own a Maule MX-7-180 taildragger on wheels, but float-ready. Too bad I'm in Western North Carolina and not Florida or Minnesota.

If you had a beaver I'd do it, otherwise I don't like flying in yellow planes.

What is the latest you can do? Is the left seat of the beaver available?

I doubt the left seat as the owner is not a CFI and this is his first trip to FL on floats. We can make Brad's 185 look good also if we replaced all that white with yellow and keep the red & blue stripe, heck it may even get off the water better!

Steve, i think we will go from Quad city to Kentucky lake, depending on winds we may stop and fill out of jugs at Shelbyville. How far away are you? Get them beans and corn out so you have $$ to buy those hunting liscense! Should be able to hunt lots with prices this year again, maybee have to buy more equipement so the taxman does not get it all.

I am about an hour drive away from Shelbyville. With the cool-down, crops are drying slow, I already have my moose permit and can buy the deer tags over the counter. Looks like I will miss opener, we hunted off snowmobiles last year, so I guess I can do it again. Still saving my nickels and dimes to get the lakeside hanger put up when I get back, as I have to wait for freeze up to get the equipment down there. Let me know if I can be of any help.
