I could see quite clearly, no adds in the way, I see the Air Force getting into the farming business, I think they should save us taxpayers some money and consider buying equipment from John Deer or Massey Ferguson instead of General Dynamics or Northrup Grumman.

Calling Landes.......Someone needs to develop an STC for the big nosewheel fork and tire.....Probably isn't on the original equipment list for the Falcon.

Interesting how that nose gear looks as though it does not break in the frame by frame. It just starts penetrating the grass as if it was wet or swampy.

I wonder what will really come of the pilot as I am sure this can happen to anyone. Also curious how much that will really cost to fix or is it now totaled. Assuming totaled. Bummer

The ground was pretty saturated from the rain the night before. Unfortunately that jet will ~probably~ end up on a stick somewhere. Don't expect to hear much more about the incident - military safety investigations are tight lipped.

Unfortunate that this mishap occurred but don't second guess the benefit of getting the hardware out there for the public to enjoy. I spent four full days shaking hands with the crowd, answering their questions and sharing with them what we do. That includes talking with dozens of kids who all had the flying bug - whatever flavor of aviation they might end up in hopefully we were able to help show them some of the opportunities out there.

Believe it or not, the HUD is usually the first impact point for the forehead. It's a little over one inch thick (the HUD, that is) and isn't very forgiving (not that the instrument panel would be very forgiving, either)

Vick, if this incident turns out that it was indeed a simple overshoot and pilot error, is it really a slam dunk guarantee of ending the pilot's AF career ? I really hope it would not be, but others here appear pretty certain he'd be out of the cockpit for good.

It's tough to say that anything is guaranteed but if they find he was negligent or deliberately ignored any regulations he'll have a tough time surviving it. Some mistakes can be recovered from but when you talk about bending multi-million dollar hardware the supervision is pretty serious about accountability. They are particularly (and understandably) sensitive about large-scale public venues like big airshows so a demonstrated willful disregard for the measures they emplace to protect both their assets and their professional image is generally a career ender.

All that said, despite what may have appeared to happen it's impossible to know at this point what the real cause was. Mishap investigations are very thorough and generally do a good job of figuring out who or what is to blame. There're a variety of scenarios I can imagine that could have led to this outcome. When you factor in that he managed to not run into his lead, any other aircraft or airfield infrastructure he might just emerge a hero. But all the details of a mishap investigation are considered privileged information so you'll likely never know either way.

You didn't ask me, but that doesn't usually stop me from chiming in...Of all the organizations in the DOD, the Air National Guard can at times be the most insulated from the one-mistake Air Force (from the tail and other info I've heard, I believe this pilot is in the ANG). Since pilots typically remain with the same unit over their entire career, some 20-30 years, some squadrons can be more tolerant of "minor" mistakes (I'm not saying this accident was "minor" or a "mistake." I'm not yet convinced this pilot did anything wrong. I'll wait for the accident investigation to run its course -- I'm of the "innocent until proven guilty" ilk).

Since 9/11 the ANG began integrating more and more with the active duty Air Force and has subsequently felt pressure to see things more in line with the way they do. Some commanders have been able to stiff arm the pressure, others haven't. As time goes by, the ANG will unfortunately become more and more like active duty.
