Alvord Desert Oregon June 25th through July 4th

At 42.51182 -118.53002 from June 25th thru July 4th a rugged group of PPC flyers will be gathering at the Alvord Desert for the 7th annual Oregon Outback PPC fly-in/camp-out. We invite everyone with whatever kind of aircraft you have to join us, we're a very friendly group.

Last year was fantastic with many hours of flying over amazing scenery. We photographed many herds of wild horses, bighorn sheep, and deer. We flew at over 13,000' over Steens Mountain, skimmed across hot lakes, and discovered new soakable hot springs. I posted a couple pictures in the photo album.

Hey Q, that picture of the mustang is great. Next time I'll let you borrow my lariat so you can rope one for me...that would be a sight to see!

Are there any pronghorn in that Alvord country? I spent a few days airplane camping at Owyhee a couple years ago, and thought I saw some pronghorn. Neglected to bring my binoculars so I didn't get much of a look at them, so I'm not sure.

Yes there are probably more pronghorn than any other large animal. I've even seen them out in the middle of the Alvord Desert, miles from the nearest vegetation.

I could probably rope one from the air with a little practice, but it wouldn't be pretty when he stops in his tracks with me holding the rope.

Actually, the horse would probably take off like a bullet once you got the loop around his neck. You'd look like a parasailer being towed behind a speed boat at Cabo...with a few zigs and zags thrown in for shock value. YEEEHAAAW!! Ridem' Cowboy!
