a friend in western PA has a real nice J-3 on Barnstormers now.

Fisherman - I still do minimal pipeline work (15% of what I use to do). Hey go tease that guy back. Park stuff on or near the ROW. Tractors, bulldozers, and backhoes will get his attention. Also campfires, building materials. Spray roundup on the grass in 10-15 ft circles to turn it brown, etc.

Another thing that always got a second or even third pass from me was good looking women sunbathing or swimming!

Roundup! That's a great idea! Writes it on shopping list Maybe a couple of smoke bombs in a hole... just ahead of the front end loader. That might do it.

Have any pics of pipelines from the air? Have you ever spotted any leaks or problems?

I'm pretty sure I've been eye-balling it. I am forcing myself to be patient - I don't want to buy a beutifully flying cub at sea level to find out it will sit on the ramp half the year in the heat and DA of colorado. I want a ride in one up here. Trying to arrange that before I pull the trigger.

Most fun I have ever had was an O-200 j-3 here in Del Norte (8v1, 7850 msl). Tons of performance, just could not go anywhere!! (6 gph/12 gal useable/70 mph cruise, Colorado.. figure it out).
My sons understand tailwheel, that is all they have flown. In the good old days, guys used to solo in 3-4 hours, in cubs. Go for it!

I met a guy from del norte that just got a PA-11 at the Rocky Mountain Light Sport Expo. I need to get out to take him up on his offer for a ride. I also connected with a guy that has a C90 J3 out in Blus neck of the woods at Mack Mesa. Both were super friendly - I've just not been able to get up in one. I hope it won't be long.

Come on down sometime, we will go ripping around in the Super Cub. I am sure that Bob or Jay will let you check out the PA-11's.

We flew a C-90 PA-11 out of my strip at 6,700 for years and years. That plane taught me to fly, racked up more than its share of coyotes, and was one of the most honest birds I've ever flown. Great for learning and building TW time. Just like FlynB said above, it would only get you in trouble if you tried to use it for things it wasn't intended (don't ask me how I know ).

Thanks for the offer - I'll take you up on it someday soon. I'll PM and try to coordinate. Although I've never flown down there - I'm in the area fairly regularly to go climbing at Penitente Canyon. Beautiful area.

FlynB, what prop are you running on that O-200 J3?
I've put two O-200's on a J3. One got 4.3 gph at 81 mph indicated; with the same prop, the other got 4.7 gph at the same speed. What's running your consumption up?

I lived in South Fork 60 years ago. Went to school in Del Norte.
