Fuel Prices

Postby Mongo » Thu May 05, 2011 12:59 pm

I flew to top off my tanks last night and paid a few cents more per gallon for 100LL than I could have for 87 octane car gas....
Something is wrong there.

100LL - $4.35
87 - $4.24

And crude is down 11% this week

If that's what you're paying for LL consider yourself fortunate. LL at my field went from 4.60 to 5.50 with the last load. Absolutely ridiculous, especially since it's not driven by actual supply/demand but rather speculation.

I paid $7.35gal in Scottsdale Az last week. I obviously did not top the tanks, just enough to get to cheaper fuel. Not sure why I am bragging about this, HaHa.

$5.69 at our field in the East Bay area of California...It's the highest around though. Pretty sad as not one person I've talked to in the past 3 weeks has bought gas from their own field recently. Everyone is flying to other locations for it.

Does anyone have the skinny on what a typical airport with no control tower marks up their fuel %?

It probably all depends on the FBO. We just had a new guy takeover with a BP contract. It was formerly Chevron. Initially he lowered it 20 cents but he sure hasn't kept up since. It went up 60 cents overnight the last time.

The FBO here in Cheyenne is ridiculous for anything. 100LL is $5.89, I never buy gas or anything else from them if I can help it. Unfortunatley last week I had to buy 4 quarts of oil from them so I could change the oil in my 170 (the local supplier was out). It cost me $36 for 4 quarts of oil!!!

It is $7.09 5miles away at Indy airport.
There are quite a few airports around me in the $4.50 region.

It seems to me the fancy, executive type regional FBO chains have a mega markup in the fuel prices. Probably to pay for the high overhead of new facility's and airport/local taxes.

What really pisses me off are ramp fee's imposed on visiting aircraft. I have not personally been asked to pay one. However, It totally blows my mind that even at Public airports, they can charge a ramp fee. most are waived if you purchase fuel or services from what i hear. But thats some bullshit if i want to use a public airport and the only parking spaces are in front of the FBO. Such as in places like Hilton Head, SC and Charleston, SC.

My airport just went from $5.05 to $5.65 over night. I guess it's time to break out the 6 gallon jerry cans and hit the gas pumps down the road 20 miles. ](*,)

I agree, I generally try to stay away from anythiing with a tower and use grass whenever I can. It's hard to depending on where you fly though to find anything other than a paved runway.

100LL at KBVU - changes weekly on Tuesday has been over $6.00 for last 3 weeks -now down to 5.90 but HII 80 miles south is less than 5 bucks . Autofuel is running 3.80- 4.15 gallon.

We are blessed in the State of Washington to be able to add to the State General fund by paying sales tax on Avgas on top of all the other taxes included in the fuel. In other words we pay tax on the tax.

My home field went to $6.249 ( that scares the Hell out of $6.25 ) which is about a $0.70 jump and the lowest I have found in the Puget Sound area was $5.39.

The prices are changing so fast www.100LL.com does not have a prayer of keeping up.

Just talked to the Paullina IA airport manager and he said that 100LL that came from the railcar is priced at $5.20 to transients.
