Owning an aircraft has many special considerations like financing, taxes, inspections, registration, and even partnerships. Please post type-specific questions and topics in the Types forum.

Wow, tough crowd. Zane sent me a PM about it earlier today and even offered to send me a dictionary. After searching online I discovered it is a commonly used word that just happens to not be in the english dictionary. I was going to leave it but went ahead and deleted it from the original post.

Bushwagon-
I was taught IN SCHOOL that language is a living, breathing, and GROWING tool that we all use for communication. For example, think of all the computer related words we now use that didn't exist a couple of decades ago. The sciences, too, make up word as they advance in knowledge and need to communicate concerning that same information......

English itself is very much a compilation of convenient words borrowed (permanently) from other languages. Then we add our english endings and a couple generations of people later we think we own it!

A few people have full time jobs deciding which words are 'worthy' for inclusion in each new edition of dictionary....

After this little fiasco, I will refrain from nominating Zane to any of those very few positions. He is too inflexable for such a sensitive position.

PS I liked it anyway.

 Guys, that last post was all meant as 'tongue in cheek humor'......I hope I wasn't so 'out there' that very few picked up on that.

All except Dr. Z being inflexable. That was a backhanded compliment. Inflexable=Rigid=a wonderful thing at an an apropriate moment  particularly obvious (at inappropriate times) to an older......well, never mind.

Pre-Buy Inspection

Postby Zzz » Sun Jan 16, 2011 10:13 am

Irregardless, there is some strategery involved when refudiating these hybrid vernaculars. I suggest we no longer conversate about it.

Back on topic:

There's no set format for how a transaction should happen. I think most buyers and sellers have a sense for what is right and fair, although with a lot of money on the line, that can become warped. Active and comprehensive communication solves many potential problems.

Would a car dealership drive a car to your house from 400 miles away? Probably not, although if someone is paying these expenses I would consider it a fun excuse to take a flight.

I sold my plane to Robw56 here on BCP, and it was a smooth deal. I communicated what I thought was a fair practice and so did he. Nothing is gained by holding back. It gets tough when someone wants to annual your plane for a pre buy, and etiquette says that you should not be present. I asked for a full commitment prior to that happening, but if they had discovered something major it would have opened talks for price negotiation or deal dissolution, but for the most part I sold the plane as-is. Remediating all squawks for the deal can always be negotiated, but it's a slippery slope. We also used an escrow service which made title and loan payoff stuff a lot easier.

I've got a guy in Montana that wants me to come up in the 150 so he can check it out. I thought that might be doable since I could use a vacation and it wouldn't cost much for fuel. Unfortunately, I just found out my lender is auctioning my buildings on Feb 7th. I have to move everything I own out by then. I just can't get stuck in Montana waiting on weather for a week or two so I guess that won't happen right now.

Guess if he wants it bad enough he'll come here.

I think there should be some different expectations going into a pre-buy for different airplanes.A friend of mine was talking about having passed on an airplane basically because a buddy of his found something on it that wasn't perfect. I pointed out that his buddy is used to buying & selling high-end airplanes, and when you're gonna drop over $100K on an airplane you have a right to expect perfection or something close to it. I told my friend that he probably wasn't gonna find too many "perfect" airplanes in the $15-20K marketplace. (he was looking at a C140)

I turned a prebuy expert around in my driveway and sent back to the East Coast. The expert had stiffed me on $1600 for work I did on one of his planes 15 years ago. No way was I going to let him dig into my airplane. The person who wanted the prebuy done didnt tell me who was the inspector or know of the issue. This guy has made a lot of enemies over the years so it shouldnt have been a big suprise. These guys were not going to give me my asking price anyway so I had a little satisfaction sending him packing.

Whatever you do, don't look irregardless up on Urbandictionary http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p ... regardless

I somewhat agree with hotrod150 about being there for a pre-buy inspection. Especially if I'm going to be flying it back home. However, if the prospective buyer wants to pay for an annual on my plane as the pre-buy that's a different story. I'll be at the nearest hotel eating pizza. Just make sure the logs are signed off when finished. I don't have anything to hide.

My last purchase, I flew to the seller's location with my hired mechanic ($300 plus expenses). Owner met us there, and had the cowl already off, stood back but answered questions and provided logbooks. Naturally wanted to be there while someone he didn't know wrenched on his airplane. I took that as a good sign. No deposits involved. Seemed about right to me.

Neither is "strategery" (george w. bush), "refudiate" (sarah palin), or "conversate" (teenagers across America.)

Part of the joke. Let's get it! This thread is becoming hilarious. #-o
