Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Borinquen to Arecibo, Puerto Rico

Awesome flight, the Caribbean is an amazing place to fly. For those familiar, Borinquen (Aguadilla) is a former B-52 base. 11,100ft x 300ft wide runway, perfect backcountry spot. Flew east 20nm to Arecibo on the northern coast. Cool little runway tucked in between the marsh and the toll road which runs east-west to San Juan. The entire area is jungle or marsh, very impressive from the air. Flying here is no different than CONUS, CTAF/Unicom just like back home and you can basically fly across the entire country no higher than 2000ft MSL.

Sounds like a nice trip. Did you fly near the observatory, or is that area restricted? That would be interesting to see from above!

Yep, did a 360 around the radio observatory. I hear it was used in TWO movies: Contact and one of the latest James Bond films. Not sure how to upload pictures here, but it was cool to see. The check out CFI says it was operated by a federal agency at one time (NASA maybe?) but is now used by Columbia University.

I agree, Puerto Rico is a beautiful place. In 08 before the economy gut stomped me and threw me in the shredder I went down there to look for a house. That is also why I have a 175, because I wanted bigger tanks so I could fly there in the winters. If you get on Google earth you can see all the airstrips in the neighboring Islands. Can't get any better than that. I'm still flying there someday, just won't be home when I get there. Any way, here are some pictures I took in Jan 08.
