Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

I had no idea BB was a pilot. Fantastic! He's one of my heros.

He plays the Silver Legacy at least once a year. Two years ago he had about the best soprano sax guy in his brass line I've ever heard. He also had a lady in the crowd attempt to join him on stage. Apparently she wanted to have sex with him right then and there. Alas, she had to be forcefully removed by security. His comments as she was being dragged off were absolutely classic. Something about maybe tomorrow when she was sober. God love him, he is a genuine original.

I didn't fly anywhere today... Still troubleshooting electrical issues on an airplane that has everything labeled in Polish!

I've seen/read a couple of comments that c&w singer Alan Jackson has made about being a pilot, the first being something about having a grass strip at his vacation cabin for "landing my old taildragger". Just yesterday another comment about "I'm a pilot, retired, but...". Either he got out of it, or more likely, the record labels & insurance companies figure he's too valuable a commodity for a high-risk activity like flying. Too bad.

Took my girlfriend out to Lands Inn Ranch near John Day for a night this weekend. The first day we flew to John Day, which the airport there is reallly nice. Stayed the night in John Day. Then we flew into Lands Inn the next morning and stayed the night there. Tom & Carol run a really nice place out there, they are great people and I highly recommend staying the night there. The next day we flew to Klamath Falls and went camping for the night with some friends there, then flew home to Corvallis the next day via the gorge.

We stayed in the cabin on the right.

We went for a hike and found some nice views.

We found some cool geology.

I even got to climb some.

Got to do some of this...

Then the sun went down.

I sure had a good lookin' co-pilot.

I'll post some video a little later. Sorry there are not any good flying shots =(

My wife and I have been wanting to make a trip over to Lands Inn, I like the John Day area. Have done many fun river trips.

Is that one of OSU Flying Club C172's?

Flew with some friends out to the Wrangell St. Elias Mountains and stayed in a public use cabin accessible only by plane. Pretty sweet setup, 1600 foot strip and a 10 person first-come-first-serve free cabin.

We went for a flight this morning to shoot pictures of one of the wildfires burning in Utah. Our fires are bad, but nowhere near as bad in Colorado. This fire is called the Quail fire and is only about 3 miles from my house in American Fork. These were all shot from 13,000ft (the TFR is up to 12,500).

You can see where the fire started in the bottom of this image by the water tank. It was a track hoe that caused a spark:

Check out what an amazing job the firefighters did saving these homes:

Nasty smoke:

Small world, I had a few classes tough by your dad. I wasn't flying when I was down there, so I never got a chance to take advantage of the OSFC.

Cool video

Took a guy up to shoot some video of the Poky area fires, 66 homes not counting shops etc. A very big deal for our small town. He posted it on his web site www.sustainabletv.org looks like Dresden

Took a break from Idaho and Montana to go to Stehekin for a few days. Hiked Mt. McGregor, and had an incredible time.

I tried to. I think that saved my bacon. Nothing bent. No prop strike.

It's a tricky strip. Approach is about 45 degrees and I wasn't slow enough coming across the tops of the trees.
