Air Research Tech Wing Extensions

Does anybody have experience with payment to Air Research Technology wing extensions? They are requesting payment, by wire transfer, in advance. I find that a little spooky. Has anybody gone this route with them? Any description of your experience would be helpful!

The only wing extensions I have had anything to do with came from WingX.
They also come with an internal support that ties then into the main spar assy.

Never heard anything bad about WingX.

Yep...got mine from Stene (Will is on here) and would fully recommend. Made the order, paid in full and they arrived a few days later. Simple. Have never heard of the other. I can tell you however, ALL of my expenses have been up front and CC are not utilized due to the fees they charge. Your going to pay up front to all of them with check, money order, wire transfer, etc. Get the Wing X

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely go with Stene. I was a little thrown off by the "wire money" request that I got from Wing X. The brain trust rocks!

Ok, so I've talked with Willey and am now ready to spend the wife"s money, though I suspect it's really my own, but before I commit, I'm curious about real world performance. The 400 pound GW increase is pretty much worth it by itself but I am really wondering what kind of performance changes y'all have seen? The intended target of this new aluminum is a 1954 180, Horton STOL and a stock O470. Is there much decrease in take off roll? What else have you guys seen with the extensions? Thanks!

I am going with the 'tried and true' that has a lot of mods out there flying-unless an upstart/new product makes a 'Deal you can't refuse'......
Which in essence is paying the first customers to be a test pilot...

My experience with the Wing X on the 182. It will reduce the takeoff roll but you really feel the performance once you get to vy or a little faster. Rate of climb and ailerons tighten up. The Cuff kits make that Cessna wing perform best at the lower airspeeds. Sub Vx and up a little above Vy. I usually tell people short or soft fields go Sportsman first, Heavy and High alt go Wing X.

Never flew with one, but I hear those wing-x extensions are awesome for float ops. One possible downside to the mod is the longer wingspan conflicting with a narrow hangar door opening, or at least maybe setting the stage for some eventual hangar rash.

Very true! I have about 2+ inches on each side with my 40 ft. hangar door opening.

The glide ratio really improves with the Wing-X wing extensions plus Sportsman's kit. To me that is a BIG safety factor on making it to a runway or clearing if my big fan stops pulling me.

Okay, for those of you who have the extensions, is it worth the money? Would you do them again? (My aviation budget is fairly tight).
Since I hang out almost exclusively with folks who're land bound and who look at me with that "huh" look when I talk about anything aircraft related, your feedback is very helpful!

A friend of mine put them on his 180 a few years back. He did it mostly for the gross weight increase.
Then a few years later he lost it in a cross wind landing and THINKS that the extensions might have been a contributing factor when the windward wing lifted up on over as he sat it down on the down wind wheel. That is his hope anyway, sounds like denial to me, but then I was not there then.

$5000 and change for kit with STC and 40 hours of labor minimum.... It took us a bit longer given the fact we had never put them on before. They are not easy as you must modify them to fit. It was a certain challenge but I can tell you now having just gone through it, have someone do it that has experience, before you even think about doing them yourself.

As for the Sportsman kit...that was simple.

I am soooo glad my wife does not read this forum....
