How To: Edit your posts

Postby Zzz » Wed Jul 14, 2010 1:50 pm

I so often see people making multiple posts to add additional information, or try again to post a photo. It's not necessary to post multiple times, because everyone can edit their own posts.

If you added the wrong link, or your photo post didn't work out because of wrong syntax, or if you simply blabbed your virtual mouth too hard, you can edit your post to save face.

Just above the message area for your post, there's a little row of buttons. One looks like a pencil. Click that.

The post edit screen will appear and you can edit, fix, change, whatever you need to do. When you're done, click Submit just as if you were posting for the first time.

Some philosphy on editing posts
If you're editing to "fix" your opinion, it can be slippery. On the one hand, it might be wise to correct data you've learned after the post, however posting something then backpedaling and editing it constantly is kinda weak. You can't delete your post, just edit it, so it will be obvious that you said something and then retracted it. But, it's all up to you.

If someone corrects me in the forum, I take my medicine. Being corrected can be interesting too. It's nice to know the original statement that was in question.

If you're trying to get on a jury, or disavow any knowledge of FAR violations, or you simply stop liking us here at BCP, and you feel the need to have all your posts be gone.... PM me and I can handle that with one click.

Thanks for the input Zane, I decided to let my last screwup alone, as I didn't want to muddy the waters further and make the correction wrong! I for one will use this info in the future no doubt, and sure as heck could have used it in the past.

I have seen a few instances where people must have spent a really long time editing all their posts to nearly blank in order to "say goodbye." It doesn't have to be that difficult. Just drop me a note.

I won't be shy. And I'll be honest. I was one of them that almost said goodbye. I did edit some of my post's but only because I was disgruntled and disappointed at the time. Then I got over it and here I am. Still on one of the best forums for back country flying!! Zane is a great guy and I believe he deserves to have a nice clean mature forum that he works so hard to develop and maintain for our use at no cost (I will click on that donate button as soon as it appears!!). And when it get's here someday, I know the new site will be awesome.

There's a lot of great people, information, pictures and video's on this forum. But, I have also tried to weed out the ones that I have no desire to communicate with (sorry, just being honest). I know I can come across as a prick sometimes, but I'm actually a really nice guy. Maybe I speak/type what's on my mind too honestly sometimes.

So. I'll apologize to anyone that I may have offended in the past, information that I may have past along or wrote that was incorrect and/or not thought out properly on my part.

Looking forward to many more great years of BCP.org!!!

If you want to contibute something in Z's direction, I think when you click on the sponsors links, he gets a coin. He can probably jump in and veriufy that, but I think he mentioned it once.
If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

58/Pat - People on this forum tend to have and express strong opinions ... that's just fine. Others get really offended by differences of opinion ... and they need to get over it.

If everyone agreed with each other all or most of the time @ BCP, then this would be a very boring forum .. nobody wants to hang out with the Stepford Wives.

I'm not sure to what extent Zane bleeps posts, but it doesn't appear to happen all that often. And even when people express strong opinions here, the dialog seems to be rather tame, no name-calling or such, as compared to lots (most) of the other forums out there in webland.

I've gone back and edited a few of my posts, mostly to remove obviously bone-headed comments so as not to prove beyond a shadow of doubt to the entire universe how dumb I can be sometimes. On some forums that's not possible - you're there in all your glory for posterity.

You're doing a great job, Zane!
