MtMatt

Aha! Now we know why my comment in the chat room about feeling guilty for buying lots of stuff for the plane caught your attention! But matt, buying the tires is one thing...even a week before the unveiling in the downstairs shower....But dude...videoing her response? That'll get you couch time for a month! Good thing you gave her some credit at the end!

I can join the club on this one though. I bought the 2nd RR in cash, in advance without it even being made yet and without telling my wife...until two months later. Believe me Matt, your wife handled those 31" Bushwheels a lot better than mine handled the new plane.

I hope everything turns out okay...that the tires fit, and the wife forgives ya! :D

cheers!

ps. maybe she'd like her very own girly headset? I just got these for my wife (while I got two intercoms, another set of VGs and some other cool stuff for the plane recently)Image

My wife is one of a kind, she is the dearest thing to my heart and I would sell the plane in a second if I had to decide, and she knows that.

She watched the video and she even made the monkey "beep". I wouldn't post it without her knowing, and she got a hellva laugh. I didn't go off and email it to all her family, but she had no problem with me posting it here. I've made many sacrifices and so has she. She knows how much I love flying and she supports it, even if it seems pretty dumb sometimes (like spending $$$ on plane tires). And yes, she know how much it cost, she saw the invoice.

I at least had the balls to tell her (wasn't easy), that was the day she got back from a 5 day cruise with her mom. (Wonder where that money came from ;) ).

At any rate, you can make all the assumptions you want, but life and marriage are about sacrificing and giving, we both have that down pretty well IMO.

As far as being financially responsible.... well, that is something I am also passionate about. No credit cards were harmed in the making of this video (only bloody hands and many 80+ hours work weeks). We're an odd couple, but we might just make it.

Cheers

PS, thanks for the advice though, it's well received.

I just subscribed to your YouTube channel Matt. I hope to see some cool vids of that plane of yours outfitted with those monster size tires, maybe a first take-off and first landing vid too :D

My biggest complaint about buying bushwheels...

Postby Terry » Thu Mar 31, 2011 10:26 pm

That was AWESOME! When I saw the topic I told my wife Pam, we need to watch this it's going to be funny.....I know this guy. We have had the same Bushwheel conversations, and Pam says your wife took it better than she would have.
Too funny, congrats on the tires!

Matt,
No worry, the doctor is in. BCP marriage counseling is here to help you.
You wouldn't have gotten a camera in KT's face if she hadn't played along. Great showman/sportsmanship on her part. On the surface, to many, it appears Matt futures just took a nosedive as you now have less ammo to disagree with her the next time the big purchase catches her eye. Deep in our gut though, we know it was a strategic move on your part to buy the bushwheels as the loss of this much ammo on either side of a marriage promotes world peace and marital harmony. Good job Matt and tell her they look good on her.

Do have a bed down there in the basement? You had better get that downstairs shower cleaned out..I think that is where you might be living in the near future...is there a stove or micowave down there?...cold food may not be the only things cold you may experience. [-Xi
What a riot!!..showed my wife :D :D :D !
I start annual on Monday..no new Bushwheels in my future. :(
As a footnote..I just purchased 8.50X6's to replace my 8.00X6's..not bushwheels but a little better for rough fields but no STC's to fool with.

Very nice Matt! :!: If I din't use pavement so much I'd be very tempted to follow your lead.

...We'll on the BW's anyway. I'd have to do a lot more work up-front on the notification end.

Matt,
All joking aside (like that's gonna happen), the Stinson looks good on BW's. This is the first I noticed you have the wide fork bush tail wheel. Was this in the bottom box of the pile in the shower or has this been on the plane? I think putting on the bush wheels would create a great distraction while sneaking on the wide fork tailwheel at the same time. I got one for my Tundra and am putting it on shortly. Now I think I should have waited till I did bush wheels. Dang!

Thanks for the laugh, Matt. Watched that with my husband nearby on his computer, and he started looking over more and more often, with his eyebrows climbing toward his hairline. I swore I'd never do that to him with my plane, and he sagely commented, "That's because you can't fit 31" bushwheels on your plane. Now, when it comes to getting another gun..."

I love my husband. I'm absolutely sure you dearly love your wife and she loves you, to have the humor to post that! Next time, though, don't start off with "You know those shoes you bought?" ... cause getting her grumpy ain't the right way to break those kind of things. Jus' saying. Not that I have any experience in this, or anything... :^o

Dirtstrip: Yep, it was a package deal. I figured I had one shot at this deal, not like I can say "hey, look at all the money I spent, and in another few months I want to spend this much more". [-X I put a lot of thought into this. And I have to admit, I didn't think she would notice that "little" tailwheel had changed, but I told her anyway.

Dot: Ya, not the best way to start out by any means, I was pretty much nervous and scared. That's just how it came out.

Thanks guys, I think...

I did approach my wife last month about BW's. She gave me a funny look and asked "what's wrong with the tires we have (8:50's), there big enough. What are you doing trying to compensate for something?"

I left it right there.

Looking great Matt!! Priceless video too, all things considered I think she handled it pretty well. I can't wait to see the pics and video from where you'll take this monster now!

My approach in such matters is to just buy it, install it, and see if she even notices - remarkable how much goes right by them. If she does notice I switch topics to ask how her convertible is running and ask if I can do an oil change or anything. Separate accounts is required to get past the first part of this approach.
