Beef City, CA

Postby qmdv » Wed Mar 07, 2012 8:40 pm

On a recent road trip, I was driving from San Louis Obispo to my place. At the cross roads of Hwy 41 and hwy 33 I stopped at a convenience store called Beef City in the middle of now where. There is a new stretch of Hwy 41 and just to the north west about 100 ft is a stretch of the old road. Good spot to land and get a corn dog.

This is between Paso Robles and I-5. Hwy 33runs from 5 oclock to 11 oclock. Hwy 41 runs from 7 oclock to 1 oclock. Just to the left of 41 is smooth surface. Just to the left of the 18 wheeler (probably Pat) No power poles at that point.

Probably not legal unless your oil temp was too high. Safety first.

Driven by this place several times in the last year and thought the same thing. Been wanting to take a trip to SLO (where I went to college and learned to fly) and make some precautionary landings. :)

Make it Avgas and I'm in. It's looking like I'll head out Friday or Saturday to stay ahead of the weather. I'll need a corndog about then.

It's called reef city or reef station. Along the fault line the ancient reef is exposed. You can find tons of old seashells clams and sharks teeth all around there.
