New Gopro remote

Does anyone have experience with the new GoPro remote? Says it can control multiple cameras.

So far it works great. Change settings from the remote and see what the camera is doing, (Settings, on / off). We are waiting for the "app" to watch from smart phone and hopefully I can catch the transmission using a dish antenna and broadcast our jumps live.

I used it at JC this last week and it worked flawless. Battery life was not at the drift-big battery level, but usable. Never failed to activate, and being able to KNOW it was recording (or changing the settings or turning it off) was where the others just fall down.

The wifi bacpac stays on even when the remote and cam are turned off, so it continues to use battery.

What I also noticed is that the quality of the vid - including low light - was LEAPS and bounds better than both my Drift HD170 and my Contour HD. Like way better.

Its pricey to get all that set up compared to the others, but it works great and bests them on vid quality by a good margin. When the app comes out, and if it works as advertised, will then provide all of the above PLUS a view finder. That will be the shiznit!

Emmet, where did you buy yours. Get a good deal anywhere? I need something other than my Drift HD 170, the damn thing keeps turning itself off while in use, not a handy feature!

Mike, I actually borrowed the camera from a buddy.

You can set you drift to not auto off.

Mike, my Drift HD170 was turning itself off and driving me crazy. (The camera tended to turn off as I took off.) I was packing up everything to send it in for service when I realized that the battery (I'm using the extended hour battery) seemed to need more pressure from the back. Now I insert a paperclip between the rear cover and the battery; problem has yet to reoccur.

What setup and accessories do you recommend if I want to mount the camera in the plane (say, on internal tubing) or on the wing strut?

I use RAM mounts - you can mount a ball by a variety of methods/places. If you have a tie down ring, you can put a longer bolt through and mount a ball there - good for approach shots that also get the plane - see below (you can actually see one of the balls attached to my forward strut - experimental so easy )

Get the 1/4-20 adapter ($7.95 on Amazon) for the GoPro and that will allow you to attach a 1/4-20 RAM B ball, or attach to any standard 1/4-20 mount (tripods, clamps, etc.).

I gave up on remotes some time ago. I would forget to turn it on, or it would be on when I didn't want it to be. So I went a different route, a 32 gb card in the Contour + camera and a separate battery that gave 6-8 hours of time. The card is good for about 4 hrs of recording. So it kind of exceeds my time in the air for the old Birddog. I then put the whole kit on the bomb rack using this adaptor. All the elements are actually screwed on with the velcro ties for vibration and back up.

Really, the simple solution for aircraft recording, at least in my lowly opinion; buy a bigger memory card, they are cheaper than remotes.
