Has anyone ever considered their own weight?

A general forum for anything related to flying the backcountry...or just flying in general. Please check first if your new topic fits better into a more specific forum before posting.

Well the time finally came. I decided I might live another 30 years if I'm lucky and I decided I was tired of being a fat ass. I was at 273 and my goal is to be 195 by the end of the year. Sooner would be nice. I was that weight in 2002 so it should be obtainable. Since I quit doing Concrete on a daily basis I have been packing the weight on.

I started the Master Cleanse on the first of this year. It is day 25 and I've lost 32 lbs so far. I feel about 1,000 times better! I am going to try to stay on it for 40 days but we'll see. I went to Vegas for the Antique Motorcycle show last week and Vegas is definitely NOT the place to be on a diet! #-o

Thanks to the diet of divorce , I lost 167 lbs of dead weight. I feel great and kept the weight off for over 15 years what a pain she was.. I am still around 187 lbs and stay active. Thank you divorce diet =D>
you made my life happier :D

I'm working on my weight too. Ive been working out for a while but two weeks ago finally got my diet in order. Lost 4 lbs so far this year. Lost 20 last year so Im going in the right direction. Like to get to 190. So i have 56 to go. Its going to be a looong year lol.

There have been some pretty interesting studies lately.

Foods your mother eats when pregnant become more desireable for the child. So you can blame your parents to a degree. It also may relate to the next study.

High fat (may be high calorie but i think it was high fat and mostly saturated fat) damages the part of the brain that controls hunger. So it becomes increasingly difficult to control weight.

People who lost weight on a diet still had cravings a year later. Probably related to the above.

It's not just the calories consumed but the type of calories. Processed carbs and simple sugars convert to body fat more readily than actual fats or protien consumed. Atkins may actually have some validity.

A coworker of mine lost 90 lbs in the last couple of years (and has a lot more to lose but he's stoked by what he's done already.) He said he did it through portion control.

if I stay somewhere around 1600 calories a day I maintain the same weight... go over and I go up... go down to say 1200 or less and I lose... that's all it is friends and neighbors... calories in ,fat on... calories out ,fats gone... :shock:

Yeah, it's simple in theory...it's the execution that is not so simple...kind of like golf in that respect. :lol:

Stay active and move a round a lot. Eat a little smaller portion , and drink water. This will help you to flush your system out. Eat fiber. If its white its not all that good for you. Stay away from the sugar. And stay away from the artificial sweeteners as well. Look for things with low preservatives. Low in salt. The key is active. A walk or bike ride. Don't have to be fast just move. You will be surprised what the simple things can do for you..

HCG diet.
It really works well, you have to buy the real thing and inject it but my mother in law Is a nurse and has done it for herself her husband her son as well as some friends and it seems like magic to me.
They just melt away ecpeccially her husbands beer belly. Anyway that's what I would try if I was in the market for a diet. On a side note it is also supposed to raise your production of testosterone by about 50%.

It's all about complex carbs ( food that is) bread, pasta, starches like patatoes. Back off on those and the weight drops off. Check out the Paige food plan. I lost about 15lbs in about 3 months and have kept it off. You can easily predict when the weight will rise and how to drop by the amount of carbs. No calorie counting just simple understanding of carbs.

Halfway through "The Omnivore's Dilemma" shines a lot of light on a lot of this discussion as well. I am halfway through it and I am already totally changine my family's eating habits.

I am down to 165 by the way from a high of 205. Started dieting back in August. Just watching intake and not eating till I am "full" is really all I am doing in this weather, biking every time I can in when it gets above about 15F

Yesterday was day 40 on the Master Cleanse. Since the first of the year I have lost 45 lbs. I've gone from 273 to 228 lbs. Since I fly a 150 now it needs all the help it can get.

I had a physical on day 37 and my blood pressure has dropped from 168 over 82 to 117 over 71. My doctor was really surprised and had me send him a copy of the Cleanse. They called and said everything looked good but my potassium was on the low side of normal. I actually feel great! I might go a few more days but drinking that crap so long make you hate it. I'm over half way to where I want to get this year. :lol:

When I got diabetes 5 years ago I lost 40 pounds and was taking 1000mg of metformin a day.

I didn't watch the carbs real close and didn't give up bread, pasta, or rice. Over the last 3 years I gained back 30 pounds, bad.

This last FAA medical I knew all the numbers would be bad and they were.

I got mad as hell at myself and attacked the fat with all my will power. As of right now I have lost 23 of that 30 I had gained. 8 more pounds and I'll be 169

The difference now is I am off bread, pasta, and rice. I have not taken Metformin in 4 weeks and my blood sugars are good. 100 in the morning. 130, 2 hours after eating. 75-85 after a 1 hour walk. Cholesterol and BP good too.

Interesting, 2 drinks a day makes the blood sugar go down! No beer or sweet liquors. My drinks of choice are Merlot and Jack Daniels.

Now how long can I live like this?

Well REALLY!!! good news from the doc today. He said don't take the Metformin as long as the sugar numbers keep doing what they are doing. My numbers are like a person who is mid to high normal. To soon to do a A1C but I go back in a month and it should be in the normal range, I hope.

If I keep the A1C in the normal range can I get off the Special Issuance medical? I know one guy here did.

Weight down to 174. I want to get to 169.
