Floats across America

Postby ZK Kiwi » Sun Jun 03, 2012 8:29 pm

Hi,

A friend here in NZ has bought a set of EDO 3500A floats for his 185 and we are looking for options to transport them from Georgia to Oshkosh (or Idaho). At the moment it looks like driving from Idaho via Osh to Georgia and back to LA, there must be a better way. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Regards

Try googling the self drive rent a truck companies. U-Haul, Penske and others.
Fly to GA., get truck, load, drive to OSH, camp in back, drive on to destination and drop truck.

Check w/ a freight consolidation outfit.

As long as there is no near term delivery date they can shop the load to independent truckers who need a load on the back end of a trip.

Oshkosh is going to be easier to find truck room than Idaho, I would guess.

I had floats transported from Ontario to Seattle back in 1994 and was actually pleasantly surprised at the costs.

Tried to find the consolidator's name but too long ago. I do know he was out of the Portland, Or. area or across the river in Camas or Vancouver, WA

Many years ago I transported a set of CAP 3000's like this. It worked surprisingly well. Not sure if it was legal, but I was young and dad wanted his floats moved.

Or you could install them on an aircraft and fly them there. Carry the wheel gear with youy for a quick change over if they need to go on another plane.

There is shipping site that truckers bid on your job , kinda like a eBay. Might work for you. I guesstimate
600 or so if you have no time constraints.

I forget site name? :?:

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions, I have passed them on.

At present we are working with a guy in SC who is flying to OSH and has offered to put the floats on his 185 , fly them up and put his wheel gear back on for the trip home. Certainly an interesting approach.
