One was a Champ in Rexburg, the picture showed the main gear torn off, sitting upright in a pivot irrigation field. Good smooth site but the ruts the pivot wheels leave would be enough for a non bush wheel equipped plane.....which it was. No explanation as to what the heck.
The second one I heard about today, (below)and again the lack of info is frustrating but what do you expect from the local rag? Sure sounds like a ground loop. The headline was titled "PIPER CUB CRASH LANDS AT I.F. AIRPORT".
"A single-engine airplane made a hard landing at the Idaho Falls Regional Airport, damaging the aircraft's wings and spilling fuel that resulted in shutting down the runway for about 45 minutes.
The Idaho State Journal reports (http://bit.ly/oWsful) the two Idaho Falls men in the Piper Cub that spun when it touched the runway were not injured in the mishap at about 6 p.m. Saturday.
Authorities have not released the men's names."
Capt. Sam Villabisencio of the Idaho Falls Fire Department says it's unclear what caused the pilot to lose control. He says skies were clear and there was no wind at the time of the landing.
He says the pilot did everything right once the aircraft stopped by shutting off the engine, battery and fuel to prevent a fire.
